Job Summary:
The Respiratory Physiotherapist is responsible for assessing, planning, and implementing respiratory physiotherapy interventions for patients with acute and chronic respiratory conditions. The role involves working closely with ICU, NICU, PICU, emergency, and ward teams to improve patients' respiratory function, facilitate airway clearance, prevent pulmonary complications, and support early rehabilitation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess patients with respiratory disorders and develop individualized treatment plans.
- Provide chest physiotherapy, airway clearance techniques, postural drainage, percussion, vibration, suction assistance, and breathing exercises.
- Manage patients requiring respiratory rehabilitation in ICU, HDU, wards, emergency, and outpatient settings.
- Assist in ventilator weaning and early mobilization of critically ill patients in coordination with the treating physician.
- Monitor oxygen saturation, respiratory rate, breathing patterns, and treatment outcomes during therapy.
- Educate patients and caregivers regarding breathing exercises, incentive spirometry, coughing techniques, and home respiratory care.
- Maintain accurate patient assessment records, treatment notes, and progress documentation.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds with consultants, intensivists, nurses, and respiratory care teams.
- Ensure strict adherence to infection prevention and control protocols.
- Respond promptly to emergency situations requiring respiratory physiotherapy support.
- Maintain and ensure proper use of respiratory physiotherapy equipment.
- Participate in departmental quality improvement initiatives, audits, and continuous education programs.
- Perform any additional duties assigned by hospital management related to patient care.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree (BPT) from a recognized institution.
- Master's Degree (MPT) in Cardiopulmonary/Respiratory Physiotherapy preferred.
- Valid State Physiotherapy Council Registration.
Experience:
- Minimum 3–4 years of experience in respiratory physiotherapy.
- Experience in ICU, NICU, PICU, emergency, or critical care settings will be preferred.
Required Skills:
- Strong knowledge of respiratory anatomy, physiology, and pulmonary rehabilitation.
- Expertise in chest physiotherapy and airway clearance techniques.
- Understanding of mechanical ventilation and ventilator weaning principles.
- Ability to work effectively in critical care environments.
- Excellent communication and patient counseling skills.
- Strong documentation and clinical decision-making abilities.
- Team-oriented with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Ability to handle emergency situations calmly and efficiently.
Working Hours:
- As per hospital duty roster.
- Rotational shifts, weekends, holidays, and emergency duties may be required.
Pay: ₹12,000.00 - ₹15,000.00 per month
