We are looking for a creative and commercially-minded Fashion Designer with a strong understanding of contemporary Indian women's fashion.
The person will work closely with the Founder to develop new collections and products — from concept and mood boards to sketches, fabrics, sampling and final production.
This is an opportunity for someone who wants meaningful creative ownership rather than simply executing designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop new collections and individual designs aligned with the Shikha Mehta brand aesthetic.
- Research fashion, colour, silhouette, fabric and occasion-wear trends and translate them into original designs.
- Create mood boards, design concepts, sketches and detailed design specifications.
- Develop new silhouettes across kurta sets, anarkalis, co-ords, kaftans, capes, shararas, sarees and occasion wear.
- Select fabrics, colours, trims, embroidery and surface detailing for new designs.
- Work closely with tailors, embroiderers, artisans and vendors to develop samples.
- Manage the sampling process from first sample to final approval, including fit and design corrections.
- Maintain a strong understanding of garment construction, fit and finishing.
- Create and maintain design sheets / tech packs and ensure designs are communicated accurately to production.
- Identify opportunities to improve existing products based on customer feedback and sales performance.
- Work with the Founder to build seasonal collections and product launches.
- Ensure every product reflects the brand's aesthetic while also being commercially viable.
- Keep track of fashion and consumer trends across India and international markets.
What We Are Looking For
- 4–5 years of experience in women's fashion / apparel design.
- Experience with Indian ethnic, contemporary Indian or occasion wear will be strongly preferred.
- Strong understanding of fabrics, garment construction, embroidery and embellishment.
- Excellent sense of colour, proportion, silhouette and detailing.
- Ability to sketch and communicate design concepts clearly.
- Strong understanding of the complete product development process.
- Experience working with sampling units, tailors and vendors.
- Good knowledge of Adobe Illustrator / Photoshop or equivalent design tools is preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple designs simultaneously.
- Most importantly, strong creative instincts combined with commercial understanding.
