Skills and Competencies

2-3 years of hands-on experience in a similar analytics, data science, or data product development role

Proficiency in Python or R programming; Julia programming skills are a plus

Strong ability to manipulate and analyze data using SQL and Microsoft Office, with a high level of expertise in Excel

Excellent written, documentation, and verbal communication skills, as demonstrated through white papers, technical documentation, presentations, or conference materials

Analytical and innovative thinking, problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and cross-functional environments

Applied statistics skills, including distributions, statistical testing, regression, and related methods

Experience in data mining, text mining, machine learning, or developing statistical models is preferred. Detail-oriented, self-driven, and quick to learn, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills and a high degree of self-motivation
Education

Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in computer science or a science-related field, including but not limited to operations research, applied mathematics, econometrics, or statistics
Responsibilities

Draw meaningful insights and inferences from white papers and research papers across insurance domains that are available online

Enhance data collection procedures to include information relevant for building analytic systems

Automate recurring processes using Python, R, Julia, or similar programming languages

Provide professional analytical support across all phases of data analysis, including statistical analysis, quality assurance and quality control, documentation, and presentation

Communicate analytical insights through sophisticated synthesis and packaging of results, including presentation slides and charts

Serve as an active participant on cross-functional projects by interpreting data, translating findings into actionable insights, and supporting ad hoc analysis and reporting

Ability to independently drive projects and demonstrate technical ownership of assigned work
About the team
The team focuses on developing products related to insured property exposures, data, and related applications. These products are an important part of Moody's Insurance product line and provide valuable information for clients. The role works in a multidisciplinary environment to develop, design, and implement data products and solutions used in catastrophe risk modeling, valuation modeling, and Property and Casualty data quality assessment and enhancement. The candidate is expected to gain and apply in-depth knowledge of the products and relevant technologies.
