Job Summary
The Production Manager supports the Production Manager in planning, coordinating, and supervising day‑to‑day manufacturing operations for sports bats (primarily cricket bats). The role ensures efficient production flow, quality compliance, optimal use of manpower and materials, adherence to delivery timelines, and implementation of safety and process standards across all production stages. Production on time.
Key Responsibilities1. Production Planning & Coordination
- Production plan- Assist in daily, weekly, and monthly production planning based on sales forecasts and orders
- Production planning- Coordinate with procurement, stores, and finishing departments to ensure material availability
- Production Monitor production schedules and ensure timely completion of targets
- Support production line balancing to improve efficiency
2. Manufacturing Operations and target achivement
- Supervise all stages of bat manufacturing including:
- Wood seasoning and cleft preparation
- Cutting, pressing, and shaping
- Handle fitting and binding
- Finishing, polishing, and quality checks
- Ensure machines, tools, and jigs are used efficiently and maintained properly
- Identify bottlenecks and support continuous process improvement
3. Quality Control and on time manufacturing
- Ensure compliance with quality standards for weight, grain structure, balance, and finish
- Support quality inspections at each stage of production
- Coordinate with QC team to reduce defects, rework, and rejection
- Assist in implementing corrective and preventive actions
4. Manpower Management
- Supervise workers, craftsmen, and machine operators on the shop floor
- Allocate manpower based on skill levels and production needs
- Monitor attendance, productivity, and discipline
- Support training of new and existing workers in production techniques and safety
5. Inventory & Cost Control
- Monitor usage of raw materials (willow clefts, handles, adhesives, grips, etc.)
- Minimize wastage and ensure optimal utilization of materials
- Assist in inventory control of WIP and finished goods
- Support cost‑reduction initiatives and productivity improvements
6. Health, Safety & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to workplace safety and factory compliance standards
- Promote safe machine operation and proper use of PPE
- Assist in maintaining records for audits and inspections
7. Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare daily production reports and KPIs (output, efficiency, rejection rates)
- Maintain production records, logs, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- Report issues and improvement opportunities to the Production Manager
Required Skills & Competencies
- Strong understanding of sports bat / cricket bat manufacturing processes
- Knowledge of wood handling, seasoning, and finishing techniques
- Ability to manage shop‑floor operations and skilled labor
- Good planning, coordination, and problem‑solving skills
- Basic knowledge of quality systems and lean manufacturing concepts
- Proficiency in MS Excel and basic production reporting
- Effective communication and leadership abilities
Educational Qualifications
- Diploma / Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or related field
- Technical background in woodworking or sports goods manufacturing is preferred
Experience
- 3–6 years of experience in a manufacturing environment
- Prior experience in sports goods / cricket bat / wooden product manufacturing is highly desirable
