Job Purpose
To manage the complete transportation function, including fleet planning, route allocation, driver management, vendor coordination, vehicle maintenance, timely dispatch, delivery performance, transport costing, and compliance, ensuring efficient and cost-effective movement of goods.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and manage the entire transport fleet on a daily basis.
- Prepare vehicle and driver rosters according to operational requirements.
- Plan and allocate vehicles based on routes, load quantity, delivery schedules, and vehicle capacity.
- Ensure timely vehicle placement, loading, dispatch, and store/customer delivery.
- Monitor vehicle movement and delivery status until completion of all routes.
- Manage drivers, helpers, transport coordinators, and transport vendors.
- Ensure availability of adequate vehicles during peak operational requirements.
- Coordinate with warehouse, dispatch, inward, procurement, and operations teams.
- Monitor vehicle utilization and reduce unnecessary idle time and detention.
- Ensure proper route planning and route optimization to control transportation costs.
- Track on-time dispatch and on-time delivery performance.
- Handle vehicle breakdowns, accidents, route delays, and emergency vehicle replacements.
- Ensure proper preventive and corrective vehicle maintenance.
- Monitor tyre condition, servicing schedules, repairs, fuel consumption, and vehicle performance.
- Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and fit for operation.
- Verify statutory documents such as:
- Registration Certificate (RC)
- Insurance
- Fitness Certificate
- PUC
- Permits
- Driver Licence
- Other statutory transportation documents
- Ensure vehicles used for Fruits & Vegetables are clean, hygienic, and suitable for fresh produce transportation.
- Manage transporters and negotiate competitive transportation rates.
- Review vendor performance and resolve transporter-related operational issues.
- Verify transporter bills, trip sheets, kilometre records, detention charges, and additional trip claims.
- Monitor and control cost per trip, cost per kilometre, cost per route, and cost per unit handled/delivered.
- Prepare transport budgets and monitor actual expenses against budget.
- Identify opportunities for transport cost reduction and improved fleet productivity.
- Monitor fuel efficiency and investigate abnormal fuel consumption.
- Ensure proper POD collection and closure of pending POD cases.
- Investigate shortage, damage, rejection, and transportation-related losses.
- Maintain daily, weekly, and monthly transport MIS.
- Conduct periodic transporter and driver performance reviews.
- Ensure compliance with company SOPs, transport policies, safety requirements, and legal regulations.
- Train and guide the transport team on operational discipline, safety, and process compliance.
- Perform any other responsibilities assigned by Management.

The Transport Manager will be responsible for preparing and monitoring:

- Fuel cost per kilometre

Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of fleet and transport operations.

Preferred Experience
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in Transport / Logistics / Fleet Management.
- Prior experience in Fruits & Vegetables, Fresh Produce, FMCG, Grocery, or Cold Chain operations is strongly preferred.
- Experience managing a large fleet and multiple delivery routes.
- Experience in vendor-based as well as company-owned fleet management.
- Practical knowledge of transportation cost control and unit-level handling/delivery costing.

Reports To: Head – Operations / Business Head / Management
Team Managed: Transport Supervisors, Coordinators, Drivers, Helpers, and Transport Vendors
Pay: ₹13,633.73 - ₹70,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
