- Medical Terminology: Accurately interpret and apply complex medical terms, anatomy, pharmacology, and diagnostic procedure jargon. [1, 2]
- Record Management: Update and organize Electronic Health Record (EHR) or Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems. [1, 2, 3]
- Verification: Verify patient demographics, dates of admission/discharge, and ensure accurate coding (e.g., ICD-10) is reflected on the documents. [1, 2, 3]
- Collaboration: Liaise with doctors, nurses, and medical staff to clarify unclear dictations or missing information before final sign-off. [1, 2]
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Typing Speed: Minimum typing speed of 50–70 WPM with near-perfect accuracy.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; certification or an Associate’s degree in medical transcription is highly preferred.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Office, transcription software (e.g., pedal/foot controls), and EMR platforms.
- Attention to Detail: Strong listening skills and the ability to spot spelling, grammatical, or clinical inconsistencies.
