Job Summary
The Operation Theatre (OT) In-Charge is responsible for the overall administration, coordination, and management of the Operation Theatre complex. The role ensures the delivery of safe, efficient, and high-quality perioperative care by supervising OT staff, maintaining aseptic practices, ensuring equipment and supplies are available, and complying with hospital policies, statutory requirements, and applicable NABH standards.
Key ResponsibilitiesClinical Operations
- Plan, organize, and supervise the day-to-day functioning of the Operation Theatre.
- Coordinate OT schedules with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nursing staff, and support services.
- Ensure operation theatres are prepared and equipped before every surgical procedure.
- Monitor adherence to aseptic techniques, infection prevention and control practices, and patient safety protocols.
- Ensure implementation of the Surgical Safety Checklist before, during, and after surgery.
- Coordinate emergency and elective surgical procedures to ensure efficient utilization of OT facilities.
- Supervise patient preparation, positioning, and transfer according to established protocols.
Staff Management
- Supervise OT nurses, technicians, attendants, and housekeeping staff assigned to the OT complex.
- Prepare and manage duty rosters and shift schedules.
- Monitor staff performance and provide guidance, mentoring, and performance feedback.
- Identify training needs and conduct orientation and continuing education programs for OT personnel.
- Ensure adequate staffing for all shifts and emergency surgeries.
Equipment and Inventory Management
- Ensure availability and proper functioning of OT equipment and surgical instruments.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and repairs of OT equipment with the Biomedical Engineering Department.
- Monitor inventory of surgical instruments, implants, consumables, medicines, and sterile supplies.
- Verify sterilization status of all instruments before surgical procedures.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of sterile supplies.
Infection Prevention and Safety
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control policies.
- Monitor sterilization processes and CSSD coordination.
- Ensure biomedical waste segregation and disposal according to applicable regulations.
- Maintain environmental cleanliness within the OT complex.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety and occupational safety measures.
Documentation and Quality Assurance
- Maintain OT registers, surgical records, implant records, sterilization records, and equipment maintenance logs.
- Prepare monthly reports on OT utilization, surgical volume, infection indicators, and quality metrics.
- Participate in clinical audits, infection surveillance, and quality improvement initiatives.
- Support NABH accreditation activities and ensure documentation compliance.
Coordination
- Liaise with surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nursing services, CSSD, biomedical engineering, pharmacy, laboratory, blood bank, and housekeeping departments.
- Ensure timely availability of blood products, implants, and specialized equipment when required.
- Coordinate emergency preparedness for mass casualty and disaster situations.
Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with:
- Hospital policies and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
- NABH standards (where applicable)
- Biomedical Waste Management Rules, 2016
- Infection Prevention and Control guidelines
- Fire and occupational safety requirements
- Applicable statutory and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- B.Sc. Nursing or Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing from a recognized institution.
- Registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN & RM) with the Karnataka State Nursing Council.
- Certification in Operation Theatre Nursing is desirable.
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of clinical nursing experience, including 2–3 years in Operation Theatre services.
- Supervisory or leadership experience in a hospital OT is preferred.

Pay: ₹30,000.00 - ₹50,000.00 per hour
