1. About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and dynamic Medical Superintendent to lead the clinical and administrative operations of our 50-bedded hospital in Mangaldai, Assam.
The Medical Superintendent will be responsible for ensuring high standards of patient care, clinical governance, medical administration, regulatory compliance, patient safety, and coordination between medical, nursing, and support services. The ideal candidate should possess strong leadership, communication, and healthcare management skills, with a demonstrated ability to improve operational efficiency and patient experience.
2. Key ResponsibilitiesClinical & Medical Administration
- Oversee the day-to-day functioning of all clinical departments and medical services.
- Ensure delivery of safe, ethical, efficient, and patient-centred healthcare.
- Monitor clinical practices and ensure adherence to established clinical protocols and SOPs.
- Coordinate with consultants, medical officers, nursing staff, technicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Ensure appropriate availability and deployment of medical manpower.
- Review clinical performance, patient outcomes, complaints, incidents, and areas requiring corrective action.
- Facilitate effective communication and coordination among different departments.
Hospital Operations
- Supervise the overall functioning of the hospital in coordination with the administrative team.
- Monitor bed occupancy, patient flow, admissions, discharges, transfers, and emergency services.
- Identify operational bottlenecks and implement measures to improve efficiency.
- Ensure adequate availability of essential medicines, medical supplies, equipment, and other clinical resources.
- Participate in planning and implementation of new clinical services and hospital initiatives.
Quality, Patient Safety & Clinical Governance
- Establish and monitor quality indicators and patient safety practices.
- Lead initiatives for continuous improvement in clinical quality and patient experience.
- Ensure compliance with infection prevention and control protocols.
- Review adverse events, near misses, clinical incidents, and patient grievances and ensure appropriate action.
- Promote a culture of patient-centred care, effective communication, empathy, and professional conduct.
- Support preparation for accreditation and quality certification processes, where applicable.
Regulatory & Statutory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with applicable healthcare laws, regulations, statutory requirements, and professional standards.
- Maintain required medical records, registers, reports, and documentation.
- Coordinate with relevant government and regulatory authorities as required.
- Ensure that hospital licences, registrations, certifications, and statutory compliances are maintained appropriately.
People & Team Management
- Provide leadership and guidance to medical and clinical teams.
- Participate in recruitment, induction, performance evaluation, training, and development of medical staff.
- Identify training and competency-development needs.
- Address professional and operational issues within the medical team in coordination with hospital management.
- Foster teamwork, accountability, discipline, and professional ethics.
Patient Experience
- Champion initiatives aimed at creating positive patient experiences.
- Monitor patient feedback, complaints, and satisfaction levels.
- Ensure timely resolution of patient and attendant concerns.
- Promote respectful, empathetic, transparent, and effective communication across the hospital.
- Work closely with front-office, nursing, and clinical teams to improve the patient journey.
Emergency & Risk Management
- Ensure effective functioning of emergency and critical care services within the hospital's scope.
- Participate in development and implementation of disaster and emergency preparedness plans.
- Ensure appropriate escalation and management of clinical emergencies.
- Monitor hospital risks and recommend appropriate mitigation measures.
3. Qualification
Candidates should possess one of the following qualifications:
- Master’s Degree in Hospital Administration (MHA); or
- MD in Hospital Administration; or
- MD/MS or other broad clinical postgraduate degree/diploma, combined with specialized training/qualification in healthcare or hospital management.
4. Experience
- 6–10 years of relevant professional experience, preferably in hospital administration, clinical leadership, or healthcare operations.
- Experience in managing or supervising hospital operations in a 50-bed or larger healthcare facility will be preferred.
- Experience in quality management, accreditation, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and clinical governance will be an advantage.
7. Compensation
Salary: Negotiable, based on qualification, experience, and suitability for the role.
Pay: ₹60,000.00 - ₹100,000.00 per month
