- 3D Modeling & Drafting: Developing accurate 3D models and detailed shop drawings (beams, columns, trusses) that include dimensions, material types, and bolt/weld specifications.
- Erection Drawings: Creating plans for field workers to assemble steel structures on site.
- Fabrication Data: Generating NC (Numerical Control) files for CNC machines to automate drilling, cutting, and plasma cutting of steel.
- Material Management: Performing material takeoffs to calculate accurate quantities and weights of steel required.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Proficiency: Strong skills in 3D BIM software (Tekla Structures, SDS/2, Advance Steel) and CAD software (AutoCAD).
- Technical Knowledge: Understanding of engineering principles, structural drafting, trigonometry, and fabrication processes.
- Communication: Ability to collaborate with engineers, architects, and fabricators to resolve discrepancies.
Typical Qualifications
- Associate degree in Drafting/Design or relevant industry experience.
- 2–10 years of experience in structural steel detailing, with some roles accepting entry-level candidates.
