Job Description
Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:
As a Refunds Executive, you will work in conjunction with Patient Financial Services Management team to identify unit priorities and realign staff and workflow as appropriate.
To review and verify refund requests against patient and insurance accounts, ensuring correct identification of credit balances and overpayments for processing
Evaluate credit balances in patient and insurance accounts to determine refund eligibility.
Initiate, process, and document refunds based on payer contracts, internal policies, and regulatory requirements.
Monitor trends in refund requests and identify root causes to proactively reduce future overpayments or processing errors.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in business or accounting major is preferred.
1-3 years of experience insurance verification in a healthcare setting or in billing and/or insurance collections.
Experience leading a team or project and working as a subject matter expert. Demonstrated ability to prioritize work, handling daily and multiple tasks to completion within the time allotted.
Experience with various insurance plans offered by both government and commercial insurances (i.e., PPO, HMO, EPO, POS, Medicare, Medicaid, HRA’s) and coordination of healthcare benefits, including requirements for referral, authorization, and pre-determination.
Experience with medical billing and collections terminology – CPT & HCPCS
