BSR Supervisor — Roles & Responsibilities
Assuming BSR = Board Store / Raw Material Store, the BSR Supervisor is responsible for controlling the receipt, storage, identification, issue, and movement of boards and related raw materials used in modular furniture production.
1. Material Receiving
- Receive boards and raw materials from suppliers.
- Verify material against Purchase Orders, delivery challans, and approved specifications.
- Check quantity, dimensions, thickness, colour, finish, and material type.
- Inspect boards for damage, scratches, moisture, warping, edge damage, or other defects.
- Report discrepancies to Stores/Purchase/Quality teams.
2. Material Identification & Storage
- Maintain proper identification of all boards and materials.
- Store materials according to type, size, thickness, colour, finish, and project.
- Maintain proper rack/bin/location identification.
- Ensure boards are stored safely to prevent bending, damage, and moisture exposure.
- Maintain FIFO/appropriate stock rotation where applicable.
3. Inventory Control
- Maintain accurate physical and system stock.
- Monitor daily receipts, issues, transfers, and closing stock.
- Conduct regular physical stock verification.
- Investigate stock discrepancies.
- Maintain minimum and maximum stock levels for critical materials.
- Inform Planning/Procurement about shortages and replenishment requirements.
4. Production Material Issue
- Issue boards and raw materials according to approved production requirements.
- Verify material requirements against BOM/cutting lists/work orders.
- Ensure the correct board type, thickness, colour, and finish is issued.
- Maintain records of material issued to each project/order.
- Avoid unauthorized material issue.
5. Cutting & Production Coordination
- Coordinate with Planning and Production regarding material requirements.
- Prepare materials in advance for scheduled cutting.
- Ensure materials are available before production starts.
- Prioritize material issue according to the production plan.
- Communicate shortages that may affect production schedules.
6. Material Handling
- Ensure safe handling of large boards and heavy materials.
- Use appropriate handling equipment and manpower.
- Prevent damage during loading, unloading, stacking, and internal movement.
- Ensure proper stacking methods and safe storage heights.
- Maintain clear access to storage areas.
7. Wastage & Scrap Control
- Monitor material wastage generated from production.
- Segregate usable off-cuts from scrap.
- Maintain records of reusable material.
- Coordinate with Production/Planning for utilization of usable remnants.
- Control unauthorized disposal or movement of scrap.
8. Quality & Preservation
- Monitor storage conditions to protect materials from moisture, heat, dust, and physical damage.
- Segregate rejected or damaged materials.
- Maintain identification of non-conforming materials.
- Coordinate with Quality/Procurement for supplier-related material issues.
- Ensure damaged material is not issued for production without approval.
9. Documentation & ERP
Maintain:
- Goods Receipt records
- Material issue records
- Stock registers
- Transfer records
- Rejection/damage records
- Scrap records
- Physical stock verification reports
- Project-wise material consumption records
Update ERP/MIS transactions accurately and on time.
10. Team Management
- Supervise BSR/storekeepers and material-handling personnel.
- Allocate daily activities.
- Monitor attendance and productivity.
- Train staff in material identification and safe handling.
- Maintain discipline and housekeeping.
11. 5S & Safety
- Maintain clean and organized storage areas.
- Ensure proper material stacking.
- Keep aisles and emergency access clear.
- Ensure PPE is used during material handling.
- Follow fire and workplace safety requirements.
- Conduct regular housekeeping inspections.
12. Coordination With Other Departments
The BSR Supervisor should coordinate closely with:
Procurement → Planning → Production → Quality → Stores → Dispatch
The objective is to ensure:
Right Material → Right Quantity → Right Quality → Right Time → Right Production Order
