About the Role
Chemco Innovative Chemie Pvt Ltd is seeking an experienced R&D Head to lead the research, synthesis, and process development function for specialty chemicals and pharmaceutical KSMs. The role will oversee a team of 4 chemists and drive projects from laboratory feasibility through scale-up, technology transfer, and commercialization in coordination with production, QA/QC, regulatory, and marketing teams.
The ideal candidate should bring strong technical depth, hands-on process development experience, and prior exposure to working in a large pharma environment. This position requires a leader who can build robust processes, mentor the team, ensure compliance, and translate innovation into commercially viable outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of 4 chemists, assigning projects, reviewing technical work, and ensuring timely delivery of targets.
- Oversee lab-scale synthesis, reaction optimization, and process development for specialty chemicals, intermediates, and pharmaceutical KSMs.
- Guide scale-up, pilot trials, troubleshooting, and process improvement initiatives.
- Ensure accurate documentation, experimental records, and compliance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
- Review analytical data in coordination with the analytical team, including HPLC and GC results.
- Drive technology transfer to production, including batch protocols, process validation, and manufacturing support.
- Track deviations, investigate issues, and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Collaborate with Production, QA/QC, Regulatory, and Marketing teams for smooth project execution and handover.
- Conduct literature reviews, feasibility studies, and FTO checks where required.
- Identify opportunities for yield improvement, cost reduction, process simplification, and operational efficiency.
- Support new product development and technical feasibility assessments.
- Interface with external stakeholders and draw on big-pharma best practices to strengthen the R&D function.
Requirements
- M.Sc. in Organic Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related discipline.
- Minimum 6+ years of hands-on R&D experience in fine chemicals, intermediates, or APIs; higher experience preferred for leadership responsibility.
- Prior experience working with a large pharmaceutical company is strongly preferred.
- Strong practical knowledge of HPLC, GC, and process development workflows.
- Solid understanding of GLP, ISO, and ICH guidelines.
- Demonstrated leadership ability, technical ownership, and decision-making capability.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and Hindi.
- Willingness to work 8-hour shifts, including night shifts on emergency basis.
- Willingness to travel for work-related assignments.
