Ruthvik Infotech GIS 3 Month Internship:
Objective:
To provide hands-on training in Geographic Information Systems (GIS), focusing on spatial data management, analysis, and visualization, enabling participants to apply GIS tools to real-world problems.
Month 1 – GIS Fundamentals
- Introduction to GIS concepts
- Coordinate systems and map projections
- Vector and raster data
- Creating and editing data in ArcGIS Pro and QGIS
- Geodatabases and shapefiles
- Map layouts and cartography
- GPS and field data collection
- Basic geoprocessing tools (Buffer, Clip, Merge, Dissolve)
Month 2 – LiDAR & Remote Sensing
- LiDAR fundamentals (LAS/LAZ formats)
- Point cloud visualization and editing
- Point classification (ground, vegetation, buildings)
- DEM, DTM, and DSM generation
- Contour creation
- Hillshade and slope analysis
- Feature extraction (roads, buildings, utilities)
- Software such as TerraScan, Global Mapper, CloudCompare, and ArcGIS Pro
Month 3 – Live Project & Industry Workflow
- Road centerline extraction
- Bridge and pavement mapping
- Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC)
- Attribute editing and topology validation
- 3D visualization
- Project documentation and reporting
- Final project presentation using real-world datasets
Expected Outcomes
By the end of the internship, participants should be able to:
- Process LAS/LAZ point clouds
- Create DEMs, DTMs, and contours
- Edit GIS datasets and geodatabases
- Extract road centerlines and other infrastructure features
- Perform spatial analysis and prepare professional-quality maps
- Apply QA/QC procedures to GIS and LiDAR data
