We are seeking an experienced Laboratory Technician to join our laboratory team. This position plays a key role in performing complex diagnostic tests, ensuring accurate patient results, and supervising the day-to-day operations of the laboratory. You will also be responsible for maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring quality control, and mentoring junior laboratory staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Diagnostic Testing: Perform high-complexity testing on patient samples, including blood, urine, and tissue samples, while ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Lab Equipment Maintenance: Oversee the calibration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Quality Control: Ensure that all laboratory procedures comply with hospital protocols, regulatory standards, and quality control procedures to maintain the highest standard of patient care.
- Supervision & Training: Supervise and mentor junior lab technicians, guiding them through lab processes and safety protocols.
- Clinical Collaboration: Work closely with physicians, pathologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure diagnostic results are accurate and delivered on time.
- Data Management: Ensure that patient data and test results are accurately recorded, entered into laboratory information systems (LIS), and made available to healthcare providers.
- Safety & Compliance: Ensure compliance with hospital safety protocols, including proper handling and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain knowledge of infection control procedures and health regulations.
- Inventory Management: Monitor laboratory inventory, order supplies as necessary, and manage stock levels to ensure continuous operation.
- Troubleshooting: Address technical issues or discrepancies with tests, equipment, or results, and take corrective action as needed.
- Research & Development Support: Participate in clinical research projects or new diagnostic test development as required by the hospital's medical and research teams.
Skills & Qualifications Required:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Technology, or a related field. Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience working in a clinical laboratory environment, with at least 2 years in a senior or supervisory role.
- Technical Expertise: Proficient in conducting complex diagnostic tests, including hematology, microbiology, clinical chemistry, and immunology.
- Knowledge of Lab Equipment: Experience with automated lab equipment (e.g., analyzers, microscopes, centrifuges) and manual testing procedures.
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Strong skills in interpreting test results, using Laboratory Information Systems (LIS), and preparing patient reports.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail with an ability to accurately follow protocols and troubleshoot complex laboratory issues.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain lab results to medical professionals and patients as needed.
- Leadership: Ability to lead, mentor, and train junior laboratory staff to ensure efficiency, safety, and adherence to protocols.
