- Certification in Pulmonary Function Testing (preferred).
- Valid registration/certification as applicable.
Job Summary
The PFT Expert Technician is responsible for performing, monitoring, and maintaining high-quality pulmonary diagnostic procedures. The technician will assist pulmonologists in diagnosing and monitoring respiratory diseases by conducting accurate pulmonary function tests while ensuring patient safety, comfort, and compliance with hospital protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform all pulmonary function tests, including:
- Spirometry
- Lung Volume Measurement
- Diffusion Capacity (DLCO)
- Bronchodilator Reversibility Test
- Peak Expiratory Flow Rate (PEFR)
- Maximum Voluntary Ventilation (MVV)
- Six-Minute Walk Test (6MWT)
- Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) (if available)
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures and obtaining relevant medical history.
- Ensure accurate calibration, operation, and maintenance of PFT equipment before testing.
- Monitor patients during testing and recognize any adverse reactions or emergencies.
- Generate accurate test reports and submit them to the consulting pulmonologist in a timely manner.
- Maintain proper documentation of patient records and test results.
- Ensure infection prevention and control measures are followed during every procedure.
- Maintain cleanliness and readiness of the PFT laboratory.
- Coordinate with pulmonologists, physicians, nursing staff, and other departments for smooth patient care.
- Assist in conducting respiratory assessments and patient education when required.
- Troubleshoot minor equipment issues and coordinate with biomedical engineers for repairs.
- Maintain inventory of consumables and inform the department regarding stock requirements.
- Ensure compliance with NABH, hospital quality standards, and departmental SOPs.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, audits, and departmental meetings.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to hospital policies and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of pulmonary function testing procedures and interpretation principles.
- Excellent patient handling and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Knowledge of respiratory diseases and pulmonary diagnostics.
- Familiarity with hospital information systems (HIS) and electronic medical records (EMR).
- Strong documentation and reporting skills.
- Good troubleshooting and equipment handling abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure while maintaining accuracy.
Preferred Experience
- Minimum 5–6 years of hands-on experience in performing Pulmonary Function Tests in a multispecialty hospital or pulmonary diagnostic center.
- Experience in handling advanced computerized PFT systems.
Working Hours
As per hospital duty roster, including rotational shifts, weekends, and emergency duties as required.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹25,000.00 per month
