Offshore Quality Engineer (Contract, Remote Offshore)
Overview
A senior Quality Engineer is needed to own and drive end-to-end quality for microservices in a fast-paced Agile environment. This is a contract offshore role suited for someone who can work independently, build strong automation coverage, and contribute across the full software delivery lifecycle.
Role Summary
The role focuses on quality engineering for identity-related microservices, with responsibility across functional, integration, regression, and selected non-functional testing. The ideal candidate is not limited to manual execution and is comfortable designing test strategy, writing automation, validating data, and identifying quality risks early.
Responsibilities
- Own end-to-end quality validation for microservices across functional, integration, and regression layers.
- Design, develop, and maintain REST API contract test scripts for microservices.
- Build and maintain UI automation using Selenium with Java, or Playwright with JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Write optimized black-box test cases using pairwise testing, equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, state transition testing, and decision-table thinking where appropriate.
- Apply a practical Test Pyramid approach, balancing unit, integration, and end-to-end coverage.
- Develop targeted scripts for non-functional validation, including performance, security, and accessibility testing.
- Manage and maintain effective test suites in tools such as Jira/Zephyr, TestRail, or similar platforms.
- Participate actively in Agile ceremonies including refinement, sprint planning, review, and daily collaboration.
- Work closely with developers, architects, and product stakeholders to clarify scope, identify risks, and improve release quality.
- Query and validate data across relational, NoSQL, search, and in-memory systems during testing and investigation.
- Use AI and LLM-based tools to speed up test authoring, analysis, troubleshooting, and investigation.
Required Experience
- 5+ years of hands-on software testing experience across the full software testing lifecycle.
- Strong expertise in black-box testing techniques, including pairwise testing, equivalence partitioning, boundary value analysis, state transition testing, and decision table testing.
- Proven ability to write precise, efficient, and high-value test cases.
- Experience managing test cases and regression suites at scale.
- Solid understanding of the Test Pyramid and how to apply it pragmatically in a microservices ecosystem.
Technical Skills
API and Microservices Testing
- Strong experience in REST API testing, including contract testing, consumer-driven contracts, and schema validation.
- Hands-on experience with tools such as Postman, Insomnia, RestAssured, Pact, or Karate.
- Ability to interpret Swagger/OpenAPI specifications and derive complete test coverage.
- Experience testing asynchronous or event-driven systems using message queues or streaming platforms such as Kafka or similar tools is a plus.
UI Automation
- Strong proficiency in Selenium WebDriver with Java is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Playwright with JavaScript or TypeScript is a strong advantage.
- Experience with Page Object Model and scalable automation framework design.
- Familiarity with integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines such as Jenkins or GitHub Actions.
Non-Functional Testing
- Ability to design and execute performance or load tests using tools such as JMeter, k6, Gatling, or equivalent.
- Working knowledge of security testing concepts including OWASP Top 10 risks, clickjacking, injection, and authentication bypass.
- Familiarity with accessibility testing aligned to WCAG 2.1 using tools such as axe-core, Lighthouse, or pa11y.
- Comfortable writing automation and utility scripts in Python and Shell scripting.
Data and Infrastructure
- Proficiency in validating data in relational databases such as MySQL and Oracle.
- Experience working with NoSQL or document databases such as Couchbase and MongoDB.
- Familiarity with Elasticsearch, including query validation, index verification, and update scripts.
- Comfort working in Linux or macOS command-line environments.
Workflow and Collaboration
- Proficiency with Git, including branching, pull requests, and review of test automation code.
- Experience integrating automated quality checks into CI/CD workflows.
- Hands-on exposure to AI/LLM tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, or Claude for accelerating testing and analysis tasks.
- Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Experience testing Identity and Access Management systems, including SSO, SAML, OAuth2/OIDC, and MFA.
- Familiarity with tools or platforms such as SiteMinder or Ping Identity.
- Knowledge of JWT validation, ECDSA signatures, and cryptographic checks in API testing.
- Exposure to AI-assisted test orchestration or Playwright MCP.
Engagement Details
- Role type: Contract
- Work location: Remote Offshore
- Seniority: Senior-level Quality Engineer
- Time overlap: Minimum 4 hours per day with US Eastern Time
Ideal Candidate Profile
This role is best suited for a self-driven quality engineer who can independently own a test area with minimal onboarding. Strong candidates will bring balanced depth across API testing, UI automation, non-functional validation, and data verification rather than experience limited to only one layer.
Not a Fit For
- Candidates who only execute manual test cases written by others.
- Candidates with only UI automation experience and limited API or non-functional testing depth.
- Candidates who require extensive onboarding to independently manage quality ownership.
- Candidates who are not comfortable writing or reviewing test code in a shared repository.
Application Note
Please share the candidate’s resume along with a short note summarizing primary domain experience and tool proficiency. Code samples or GitHub profiles that demonstrate test automation work are strongly preferred.
