Role Summary/Purpose
Senior Quality Assurance Engineer/Engineer – Test Engineer III/Technologist, working on the Train Performance LOCOTROL® Technologies of GE Transportation – A Wabtec company.
The role is responsible for planning, designing, executing, and documenting verification and validation activities for the Distributed Power (LOCOTROL®) product line. This position requires close collaboration with Product Owners, Systems Engineers, Software Engineers, and Architects to develop effective test strategies, establish laboratory environments, and identify opportunities for test automation.
Essential Responsibilities
In this role, you will work within established engineering processes to make technical decisions, solve moderately complex problems, and ensure product quality through verification and validation activities.
Specific responsibilities include.

Collaborate with Systems Engineering and Software Engineering teams to define validation scope and test strategies.

Analyze system and software requirements and ensure complete test coverage through requirement traceability.

Develop comprehensive test plans, test procedures, test cases, and test reports.
-
Design and execute functional, integration, system, regression, and validation tests.
-
Identify hardware requirements and establish laboratory test environments and test benches.
-
Configure, integrate, and troubleshoot hardware/software test setups.
-
Document and communicate objective evidence generated during verification and validation activities.
-
Investigate, isolate, and track defects using appropriate defect management tools.
-
Perform root-cause analysis and support corrective action verification.
-
Knowledge on communication interfaces and protocols including RS-232, RS-422, RS-485, TCP/IP, UDP, Ethernet, and RF communications.

Utilize protocol analyzers, packet sniffers, serial analyzers, and diagnostic tools for bit-level and byte-level verification.

Develop robust test cases covering nominal, boundary, corner, negative, and failure scenarios.

Review system requirements, software requirements, architecture, and design documents to ensure testability.

Participate in design reviews and provide quality-focused feedback during development phases.

Develop and maintain automated test scripts and automation frameworks using Python, LabVIEW, TestStand, or equivalent technologies.

Prepare and present test plans, test results, and quality metrics to stakeholders, technical leads, and architects.

Support regression testing activities for new software releases and product updates.

Ensure compliance with applicable railway industry standards, quality processes, and engineering procedures.

Contribute to invention disclosures and intellectual property development that provide competitive advantages to the business.

Maintain accurate and complete technical documentation in accordance with engineering policies, procedures, and quality management systems.
Qualifications/Requirements
-
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline from a reputed university.
-
Academic performance of 70% or higher.
-
7–11 years of experience in Software Verification and Validation.
-
Experience in Railway, Locomotive, Aerospace, Automotive, Industrial Automation, or other safety-critical domains.
-
Strong understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) and software testing lifecycle (STLC).
-
Experience with requirement-based testing and traceability management.
Desired Characteristics

Familiarity with test design, verification, validation, and analysis methodologies.

Strong understanding of safety-critical and mission-critical systems.
-
Knowledge of cybersecurity testing principles and secure communication validation.
-
Experience with DOORS, IBM Engineering Lifecycle Management (ELM/CLM), HP ALM, Quality Center, or equivalent tools.

Hands-on experience with User Interface (UI) testing and system-level validation.

Experience in automation using Python, LabVIEW, NI Test Stand, or similar scripting/programming tools.

Familiarity with continuous integration and automated test execution environments.

Working knowledge of Linux and Windows operating systems.

Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal, collaboration, and technical leadership skills.

Ability to mentor junior engineers and drive quality initiatives across projects.
