Amentum, a global leader in advanced engineering, technical, and professional services serving the US government, allies and critical infrastructure sectors, is seeking an Environmental Specialist to support a government contract based on the island of Diego Garcia.
PURPOSE / SCOPE
The Environmental Specialist shares responsibility with the Environmental Manager in the primary duty and responsibility is to ensure operations adhere to the goals and policies of the Environmental Management System and other specified sustainability requirements affecting this contract. Will assist to develop, implement and monitor environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development and examine the contract activities to establish where improvements can be made and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
The Environmental Specialist will ensure success of environmentally focused support services, investigations, and analyses, ensuring successful operation and execution. Duties will include ensuring adherence to the goals and policies of the Environmental Management System and other specified sustainability requirements affecting contract. The Environmental Specialist supports the Environmental Manager in developing, implementing and monitoring environmental strategies, policies and programs that promote sustainable development while examining contract activities related. Will perform duties to ensure compliance with Performance Work Statement (PWS) and Amentum ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) including the Installation’s Environmental Management System (EMS) goals and policy, Diego Garcia Environmental Final Governing Standards and B.I.O.T. environmental requirements all in compliance with all applicable Federal, Host Nation, Diego Garcia Environmental Final Governing Standards and B.I.O.T. regulations, base-wide instructions, and standards. All environmental protection matters shall be coordinated with the USG representative.
Assists in the development and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the overall effective environmental management program to support the initiatives and directives of the customer.
Assists in oversight of the annual compliant self-assessment.
Ensures compliance with permits, regulatory standards and standard management practices including but not limited to sample collection, monitoring, records keeping, report preparation, training, inspections, data reporting, etc.
Reviews and assesses impacts of existing and proposed regulations. Develops procedures to meet new and changing regulations.
Establishes where improvements can be made and ensure compliance with environmental legislation.
Administers on-site and off-site hazardous waste activities.
Oversees the tracking and reporting for Program and Corporate as required.
Directs the development of training, environmental outreach, and pollution prevention programs.
Other duties as assigned
The Environmental Specialist will be available within 30 minutes to meet with Government personnel and / or Program leadership as required 24 hours/day, 7 days/week in this role.
QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Sanitary Engineering, Civil Engineering, or Chemistry based on a four-year course of study from a U.S. or United Kingdom (U.K.) accredited college or university
- Must have at least five years of experience in hazardous waste operations; medical waste management; and hazardous spill prevention, response, and cleanup , or work in a closely related field, gaining exposure to the environmental requirements of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), and other regulatory agencies. The designated alternate shall have at least three years of the same experience required for the Environmental Protection Specialist.
- Must be familiar with current global, US, Program and PWS requirements such as EPA, DOT and other regulatory agencies.

- Ability to obtain and maintain a US passport and driver's license throughout employment in this role
- Experience in an austere OCONUS environment with a multi-national workforce

- Ability to successfully pass PACOM medical requirements and maintain requirements for duration of deployment
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. Note: US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location
WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Able to stand for long periods of time such as eight (8) to ten (10) hours, bend, kneel, and reach to store/retrieve supplies
- Able to lift, carry, and push supplies and boxes up to 50 pounds
- Living and working conditions at the assignment location could be remote and uncomfortable
- Long hours, exposure to weather and hazardous conditions
- May also work in a typical office environment
