Qualification
- B.Sc. in Radiology / Medical Imaging Technology or equivalent.
- Diploma/Degree in MRI Technology from a recognized institute.
- Registered with the applicable State Paramedical Council (where applicable).
Experience
- Minimum 5–7 years of experience in MRI imaging.
- Working knowledge of Digital Radiography (DR), Computed Radiography (CR), Portable X-Ray, and C-Arm.
- Experience in NABH-accredited hospitals preferred.
JOB PURPOSE
To perform high-quality MRI and X-Ray examinations safely and efficiently, ensure patient safety, maintain imaging equipment, comply with radiation safety and MRI safety protocols, and supervise the daily functioning of the Radiology Department.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIESA. MRI Responsibilities
- Perform MRI examinations as prescribed by the Radiologist.
- Prepare patients by explaining procedures and obtaining informed consent where applicable.
- Screen patients thoroughly for MRI contraindications.
- Ensure compliance with MRI Zone I–IV safety regulations.
- Position patients accurately to obtain diagnostic-quality images.
- Administer contrast media as per hospital policy under the supervision of a Radiologist.
- Monitor patients throughout MRI examinations.
- Respond promptly to emergencies occurring during MRI procedures.
- Ensure MRI images are transferred accurately to PACS.
- Maintain MRI examination records and documentation.
- Verify image quality before releasing patients.
- Follow infection prevention and control practices.
B. X-Ray Responsibilities
- Perform routine and emergency X-Ray examinations.
- Conduct portable bedside X-Ray procedures.
- Assist during OT procedures using C-Arm equipment.
- Position patients correctly to minimize repeat exposures.
- Apply radiation protection measures using ALARA principles.
- Use lead aprons, thyroid shields, gonadal shields, and radiation barriers appropriately.
- Process and verify digital images before submission.
- Maintain X-Ray registers and documentation.
- Ensure proper identification of every patient before imaging.
C. Patient Care Responsibilities
- Verify patient identity using approved identifiers.
- Explain imaging procedures and obtain cooperation.
- Maintain patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Assist elderly, pediatric, trauma, ICU, and critically ill patients.
- Observe patients for adverse reactions following contrast administration.
- Provide emotional reassurance to anxious or claustrophobic patients.
D. Equipment Responsibilities
- Perform daily start-up and shutdown procedures.
- Conduct routine equipment quality assurance checks.
- Report equipment malfunction immediately.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and calibration.
- Ensure MRI coils, accessories, and X-Ray detectors are maintained properly.
- Maintain uptime records of imaging equipment.
E. Radiation & MRI Safety
- Ensure compliance with Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB) guidelines.
- Follow radiation monitoring requirements.
- Wear radiation monitoring badges as required.
- Maintain MRI safety screening records.
- Prevent unauthorized access to MRI restricted zones.
- Participate in radiation safety audits.
F. Infection Control
- Clean MRI gantry, coils, X-Ray table, and accessories after each patient.
- Follow biomedical waste segregation protocols.
- Use appropriate PPE.
- Follow terminal cleaning protocols after infectious cases.
- Report exposure incidents immediately.
G. Documentation
Maintain accurate records of:
- MRI examinations
- X-Ray examinations
- Contrast administration
- Daily equipment checklist
- Preventive maintenance
- Breakdown register
- Radiation monitoring
- MRI safety checklist
- Incident reports
- Quality indicators
H. Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise junior MRI and X-Ray technicians.
- Allocate daily work schedules.
- Train newly recruited technicians.
- Ensure adherence to departmental SOPs.
- Monitor image quality and repeat rates.
- Participate in departmental meetings.
- Support quality improvement initiatives.
I. Quality & NABH Responsibilities
- Follow all NABH standards and departmental SOPs.
- Participate in internal audits.
- Monitor departmental quality indicators.
- Report incidents, near misses, and sentinel events.
- Participate in CAPA implementation.
- Ensure documentation compliance.
J. Emergency Responsibilities
- Assist during Code Blue situations requiring imaging.
- Provide emergency portable imaging.
- Support trauma and ICU imaging services.
- Maintain emergency readiness of imaging equipment.
