Job Description:
We are seeking a software-quality engineering leader who has personally written code, built automated test frameworks and led test teams. This is not a manual QA management role. The ideal candidate understands software architecture, CI/CD, automation pipelines, system testing, industrial product validation and how to partner with senior development managers so quality is engineered into the product rather than inspected at the end.
This manager role will lead the transformation of testing into a modern quality engineering discipline for industrial automation software. The leader will manage test engineers and automation engineers, define the test strategy, embed quality gates into pipelines, expand automation coverage and work as a strong functional partner to the two Grade 9 Senior Software Engineering Managers. The role should be technically credible and influential, while reflecting a scope one level more focused than the senior software engineering manager roles.
-
Lead software test, automation, validation and quality engineering talent reporting into the Hyderabad organization.
-
Own the quality-engineering strategy across control software, modern platform products, system integration and release readiness.
-
Partner with development managers to make quality a shared engineering responsibility, not a downstream QA function.
-
Improve automated testing coverage, CI/CD quality gates, regression cycle time, defect prevention and release confidence.
-
Coach test engineers toward stronger coding, automation, framework development and system-quality skills.
-
Lead, mentor and grow test engineers into modern quality engineers with strong coding, automation, system thinking and product-quality orientation.
-
Recruit talent capable of building frameworks, writing robust automated tests and influencing developers technically.
-
Create an environment where test engineers collaborate early with developers, product owners, UX, systems engineers and architects.
-
Operate with strong functional leadership while partnering with Grade 9 senior engineering managers on quality strategy, release readiness and engineering discipline.
-
Define test architecture for complex products spanning mature control software, modern cloud/platform components, APIs, front ends and system integration.
-
Guide automation strategy across unit, API, service, UI, integration, hardware/edge-in-the-loop where relevant, regression and exploratory testing.
-
Partner with MBSE/System Engineering to connect requirements, system behavior, verification strategy and automated validation.
-
Use AI-assisted testing where valuable, including test-case generation, test-data generation, defect triage, log analysis and automation maintenance.
-
Plan test cycles, automation roadmap, resourcing and release-readiness activities in lockstep with the development organizations.
-
Track and report quality risks, automation progress, release confidence and improvement plans to engineering and product leadership.
-
Manage day-to-day quality execution with a practical, hands-on operating style appropriate for a functional manager role.
-
Act as a technically credible quality partner to both Senior Software Engineering Managers, collaborating on quality standards early in design and development.
-
Partner with UX and Product Management on acceptance criteria, usability validation and user-facing quality bars.
-
Communicate quality risks and release readiness clearly to technical leaders and non-technical stakeholders.
-
Continuously improve automated coverage, pipeline reliability, regression time, defect prevention and quality metrics.
-
Shift the organization from manual validation dependency toward continuous, automated and risk-based confidence building.
-
Use engineering metrics such as DORA, escaped defects, flaky-test rate, automation coverage, cycle time and release-readiness indicators to drive improvement.
-
GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, Jenkins, GitLab CI or equivalent CI/CD tooling; Jira; Confluence; GitHub Enterprise.
-
Automation frameworks such as PyTest, Playwright, Selenium, Cypress, Robot Framework, CppUTest, JUnit, NUnit or comparable tools.
-
Static analysis, code coverage, test reporting, artifact management, containerized test environments and observability/log-analysis tools.
(External) English Qualifications:
-
12+ years of software engineering, quality engineering, test automation or validation experience, including substantial hands-on coding experience.
-
3-5+ years of people leadership experience managing test engineers, SDETs, automation engineers or quality engineering teams.
-
Strong programming experience in one or more languages such as Python, C#, C++, Java, JavaScript/TypeScript or similar.
-
Proven experience designing and implementing automated test frameworks and integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
-
Experience with system/integration testing for complex software products, preferably including industrial automation, embedded/edge systems, OT software or regulated environments.
-
Working knowledge of TDD, BDD, test pyramid, contract testing, performance testing, security testing, static analysis and release-quality metrics.
-
Experience collaborating with Product Management, UX, Systems Engineering/MBSE, Architecture, Quality Engineering, Cybersecurity and DevOps/DevSecOps teams in a scaled product-development environment.
-
Industrial automation, distributed control systems, SCADA, field devices, HMI, control systems, edge systems or mission-critical software validation experience.
-
Experience testing containerized, cloud-native, microservices, microfrontends and hybrid cloud/edge products.
-
Experience with AI-assisted testing, self-healing automation, intelligent defect triage, test impact analysis or AI-based quality analytics is a strong plus.
-
Experience working with globally distributed development and test teams is preferred.
