Your role

As a Product Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role within the innovation lifecycle, responsible for leading the design and development of advanced products, components, equipment, and systems. Your focus will be on embedding sustainability and cutting-edge technology to align with our organization’s commitment to science-based targets. Reporting directly to the [add hiring manager title], you will be an integral part of international, multidisciplinary teams contributing to ambitious engineering projects that set industry standards.

Your core responsibilities include:

Customer Focus
- Thoroughly analyze project requirements, ensuring all technical deliverables and customer expectations are met with precision and within agreed timelines.
- Drive initiatives that advance Time to Market, enhancing competitive edge while maintaining quality excellence.
- Maintain transparent and proactive communication with all project stakeholders; promptly raise potential issues and provide clear status updates to facilitate informed decision-making.
- Adhere strictly to Standard Operating Procedures, resolving any technical impediments encountered during the design and development phases.
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional specialties such as CAE, Electrical Design, and Manufacturing Engineering to ensure cohesive project execution.
- Oversee design reviews and ensure all outputs are validated by designated reviewers prior to release.

- Design modular product platforms, reusable components, and subassemblies that streamline development processes and support scalability.

- Initiate and support CAD automation projects aimed at enhancing process efficiency and improving quality standards through repeated process automation.

Your role will be critical in steering projects from concept through to delivery, ensuring innovation drives tangible business impact whilst upholding Atlas Copco’s legacy of engineering excellence.

Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering complemented by 3 to 8 years of relevant experience.
Fundamental understanding of air compressor technology and practical experience designing compressor packages.
Proficiency in interpreting contract documents to ensure designs align precisely with defined scopes.
Insight into key factors influencing product performance, quality standards, and aesthetic considerations.
Familiarity with modular design methodologies and their application in product development.
Hands-on experience collaborating with design engineers to finalize design layouts and validate outputs.
Technical skills in sheet metal fabrication, piping system design, flange selection, and heavy fabrication, including preparation of detailed 3D assemblies and 2D technical drawings.
Demonstrated ownership of projects from initial concept through to successful delivery.
Commitment to adhering to Atlas Copco’s design codes, standards, and quality norms under the guidance of team leadership.
Expertise in the product development lifecycle, from concept to market-ready product.
Familiarity with design tools such as DFMEA, design review processes, Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), and design for serviceability principles.
Experience overseeing external design agency work both onsite and remotely.
Strong proficiency with CAD software including Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD, as well as ERP (BPCS), Autodesk Vault, and PLM (Enovia) systems.
