Job Description:
The Software Asset Management (SAM) Specialist will be responsible for managing the organization's software assets, licensing compliance, vendor relationships, and license optimization initiatives. The role requires strong expertise in software licensing models, contract interpretation, audit management, and SAM tools, with mandatory hands-on knowledge of SAP licensing. The candidate will work closely with IT, Procurement, Finance, Legal, and business stakeholders to ensure software compliance, minimize licensing risks, and identify cost optimization opportunities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage end-to-end software asset inventory, licensing, compliance, and license entitlement activities.
- Maintain an accurate Effective License Position (ELP) and identify compliance gaps, risks, and optimization opportunities.
- Support and lead software vendor audits, license reviews, and true-up activities.
- Manage licensing requirements for major publishers such as Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, IBM, and SAP.
- Analyze and interpret software licensing agreements, contracts, entitlements, and publisher-specific licensing metrics.
- Manage different licensing models, including per-user, per-device, subscription, SaaS, perpetual, and consumption-based licensing.
- Handle server and datacenter licensing, including core-based licensing, virtualization, and Microsoft Server/CAL models.
- Manage and analyze cloud licensing, including Microsoft 365, Azure, Adobe Cloud, and other SaaS platforms.
- Identify opportunities to optimize software usage, eliminate unnecessary licenses, and reduce overall licensing costs.
- Collaborate with IT, Procurement, Finance, Legal, Security, and business stakeholders to ensure effective software governance.
- Improve and maintain SAM processes, governance frameworks, policies, and operational procedures.
- Utilize SAM tools such as ServiceNow SAM, Flexera, Snow Software, and Aspera for inventory, compliance, entitlement, and optimization activities.
- Provide detailed reports, dashboards, insights, and recommendations to management and key stakeholders.
- Support software procurement and renewal activities by providing accurate license requirements and usage insights.
- Ensure compliance with applicable software licensing agreements, audit requirements, and SAM best practices.
- Apply SAM frameworks and best practices, including ISO 19770 principles.
- Support IT asset lifecycle management from software procurement through deployment, utilization, renewal, and retirement.
- Identify and mitigate licensing risks associated with on-premises, cloud, hybrid, and virtualized environments.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance SAM maturity, automation, governance, and cost efficiency.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Strong hands-on experience in Software Asset Management (SAM).
- SAP licensing knowledge is mandatory.
- Strong understanding of software licensing and compliance.
- Experience with major publishers such as Microsoft, Adobe, Oracle, IBM, and SAP.
- Good knowledge of server/datacenter, virtualization, and cloud licensing models.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major SAM tool such as ServiceNow SAM, Flexera, Snow Software, or Aspera.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to assess license position, compliance risks, and cost optimization opportunities.
- Experience supporting vendor audits, true-ups, renewals, and licensing negotiations.
- Good understanding of IT asset lifecycle management and SAM governance frameworks.
