Short-Term Remote Consulting Assignment
Nice Backyard is a Melbourne-based landscaping, building and garden supplies business establishing a support and development team in Patiala, Punjab.
We are recruiting a Lead Full-Stack Developer to help design and build an integrated business ecosystem covering:
- Point-of-sale and inventory management
- Customer accounts, pricing and discounts
- Shopify-style e-commerce website integration
- Delivery dispatch, truck and driver management
- Staff time clock and operational workflows
- Customer, staff, accounts and management dashboards
- Role-based access and audit history
- Integration with platforms such as Xero, Shopify and existing business systems
As our management team does not have a technical background, we require an independent senior software architect or fractional CTO to assess shortlisted candidates and advise us on the final hiring decision.
SCOPE OF ASSIGNMENT
The selected consultant will:
- Review our business and system requirements
- Help finalise the technical interview scorecard
- Review the résumés and GitHub profiles of shortlisted candidates
- Conduct technical interviews with approximately three candidates
- Assess system architecture, databases, security, integrations, testing and cloud experience
- Verify whether candidates’ résumé claims match their actual knowledge
- Review practical assessments completed by the best two candidates
- Run or inspect the submitted code
- Conduct a live code walkthrough and ask each candidate to make a small change
- Evaluate candidates’ use of AI development tools and their ability to validate AI-generated code
- Provide a clear written comparison and final hiring recommendation
- Identify each candidate’s strengths, limitations and suitable level of responsibility
- Recommend an initial technical roadmap and team structure
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Applicants should have at least 10 years of relevant software-engineering experience and substantial experience in several of the following areas:
- POS, ERP, inventory or order-management systems
- Dispatch, transport, logistics or delivery-management software
- E-commerce and Shopify integrations
- React.js, Next.js, Node.js and TypeScript
- PostgreSQL or MySQL database architecture
- Payments, financial transactions and reconciliation
- AWS or equivalent cloud infrastructure
- APIs, microservices and third-party integrations
- Docker, CI/CD, monitoring and production support
- Application security, role-based access and audit trails
- Automated testing and code-quality processes
- Technical leadership, mentoring and code reviews
- Recruiting and assessing senior software engineers
The consultant must be able to explain technical findings clearly to a non-technical business owner.
ENGAGEMENT DETAILS
- Remote, short-term consulting assignment
- Expected duration: approximately one to two weeks
- Approximately three technical interviews and two assessment reviews
- Fixed budget: ₹30,000–₹50,000, depending on experience and proposed scope
- Potential ongoing fractional CTO work for the right person
- Some availability during Melbourne business hours will be required
- Independent consultants are preferred
CONFIDENTIALITY AND INDEPENDENCE
The consultant must:
- Maintain complete confidentiality
- Disclose any relationship with an applicant
- Assess every candidate using the same criteria
- Provide an independent and evidence-based recommendation
- Not recommend a candidate based only on résumé wording
- Be willing to sign a confidentiality agreement
