Summary of the Role:
The Fireman is responsible for providing immediate fire protection, emergency response, and support to plant operations to ensure safe working conditions at Lubrizol site. The role includes readiness for fire emergencies, routine inspection of fire‑fighting equipment, participation in emergency drills, and supporting plant safety initiatives / programs.
Responsibilities / Accountabilities:
- Respond promptly to fire alarms, chemical spills, gas leaks, and other onsite emergencies.
- Operate fire tenders, hydrant systems, extinguishers, SCBA sets, and rescue tools and fire alarm system panel and Novac fas suppression system.
- Conduct firefighting operations using appropriate techniques for chemical, electrical, and flammable liquid fires and other fires at site.
- Assist in rescue operations, first aid, and evacuation as required.
- Support Emergency Response Team (ERT) in handling incidents.
- Perform routine plant patrolling to monitor hot work, confined space entry, shutdown activities, and high‑risk operations / activities.
- Ensure compliance with fire safety rules and permit‑to‑work (PTW) procedures.
- Report unsafe acts/conditions and provide recommendations to prevent incidents.
- Monitor hazardous material storage areas, flammable zones, and process units for fire hazards.
- Inspect and maintain fire hydrants, Fire Engines, monitors, hose reels, sprinkler systems, deluge systems, extinguishers, alarms, foam systems, and emergency equipment, gas suppression system, Safety showers etc.
- Conduct regular testing of pumps (jockey, main, diesel pump) and maintain logbooks.
- Ensure SCBA sets, PPE, and rescue equipment are in ready‑to‑use condition.
- Participate in mock drills, fire drills, and emergency preparedness exercises.
- Conduct trainings for employees and contractors on fire safety, extinguisher use, evacuation procedures, and emergency response.
- Support HSE officers in awareness campaigns and safety programs.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, incidents, drills, and equipment maintenance.
- Follow industry standards and statutory requirements (e.g., Factory Act, NFPA, OISD guidelines where applicable).
- Assist in root-cause analysis of fire-related near misses and incidents.
- Respond to external emergencies as summoned by MARG group/MIDC fire department (authorities) requests with due internal approvals.
Requirements (education, experience, competencies and specific job requirements):
- Education: Minimum: 12th Pass science stream.
- Must successfully passed Fireman Training course from SFTC (Maharashtra State Fire Training Center)
- Valid Heavy Motor Vehicle Driving License.
- Experience: 2–5 years of experience in firefighting operations, preferably in chemical, petrochemical, or manufacturing industries.
- Maximum age limit 25-30 years
Education / Certification: Preferred Certifications:
Fireman Course, Industrial Fire Safety Training, First Aid/CPR, SCBA proficiency.
Experience and Skills:
- Strong technical fire knowledge
- Hands-on firefighting and rescue skills
- Understanding of chemical hazards
- High physical fitness and mental alertness
- Strict adherence to site specific safety procedures
- Effective utilization of emergency equipment (fire hoses, various branches, fire tender etc.)
