Organizational Overview:
We are hiring a passionate Data Engineer to help spearhead the solution of a cutting-edge, consumer-focused, low-latency Fraud analytics application utilizing advanced data technologies, with a key focus on modernizing and transforming existing legacy systems and influencing high-level decisions across data and analytics platform at Synchrony.
Role Summary/Purpose:
Synchrony Enterprise Fraud team is looking for a Big Data Engineer to develop leading edge software capabilities for Synchrony's fraud teams, utilizing AI, Cloud and Spark technologies integrated with advanced analytics and specialized fraud logic.
This position is remote, where you have the option to work from home. On occasion we may request for you to commute to our nearest office for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. We’re proud to offer you choice and flexibility.
Key Responsibilities:
- Understand and manage the data needs for Synchrony’s fraud teams
- Responsible for the design and implementation of scalable & fault tolerant data applications on Big-Data & Cloud Platforms to store and process terabytes of data from upstream sources with high availability.
- Partner with information architects, platform architects, data scientists and product management on solution requirements to design solutions.
- Resolve problems through in-depth evaluation of business processes, system processes, enterprise standards & procedures.
- Comply with data management standards and procedures
- Responsible for design, development, testing oversight and production implementation using AI (Bedrock, Sagemaker, etc.), AWS services(EMR, S3, Glue, Redshift, etc.) Spark, Hive, Kafka, API, Scala, Python, & SQL.
- Daily meeting with the technical team to ensure appropriate data solutions to meet business goals as well as identify and define necessary system and process enhancements.
- Work closely with Product Owners, Product Managers, Program Manager, Scrum Masters and Team Members in a Scaled Agile framework.
- Engage in mid-level business partner engagement; management of relationship and inter-group planning among technology leadership/peers.
- Stay up to date on latest trends in Data engineering and recommended best practices.
- Utilize innovative frameworks to avoid redundancy by promoting automation.
- Collaborate with data engineering team members to promote Synchrony values and culture.
- Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned
Required skill/knowledge:
- B.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field; with minimum 5+ years of experience in full lifecycle software development. in lieu of a degree 7+ years of experience in full lifecycle software development.
- 6+ years of experience in full lifecycle software development: coding, design, documentation, unit tests, maintenance, and performance tuning
- 6+ years of experience in utilizing a variety of Big Data, Cloud, and traditional database technologies in applications such as: AWS, Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Cassandra, Graph Databases, MySQL, etc.
- 1-2 years’ experience working with AI technology.
- Ability and flexibility to travel for business as required
Desired Characteristics:
- Experience developing software on data pipelines as well as broad experience with back-end development
- Strong communicator with a demonstrated ability to understand high level concepts of business domains and how these related to the software and data
- Experience working in an agile environment with a strong level of independence and a sense of responsibility for producing highly tested business correct results
- Ability to follow compliance and banking procedures to maximize secure handling of data
- Prior experience in Fraud, Cybersecurity, and Financial Services
- Experience supporting software integrated with analytical systems
- Experience dealing with sensitive data in a highly regulated environment
- Demonstrated implementation of complex and innovative solutions
Eligibility Criteria:
- B.S. in Computer Science or similar technical field; with minimum 5+ years of experience in full lifecycle software development. in lieu of a degree 7+ years of experience in full lifecycle software development.
Work Timing: 02:00 PM -11:00 PM IST
This role qualifies for Enhanced Flexibility offered in Synchrony and will require the incumbent to be available between 06:00 AM Eastern Time – 11:30 AM Eastern Time (timings are anchored to US Eastern hours and will adjust twice a year locally). This window is for meetings with Asia and US teams. The remaining hours will be flexible for the employee to choose. Exceptions may periodically due to business needs). We are proud to offer flexibility at Synchrony. Our way of working allows you the option to work from home or workspaces in our Regional Engagement Hubs. Occasionally you may be required to commute or travel to Hub or one of the Regional Engagement Hubs for in person engagement activities such as business or team meetings, trainings, and culture events.
