Job Description
Role Overview:
The Domain Lead of Accounts Payable leads the end-to-end AP operations, ensuring accurate and timely processing of invoices, compliance with internal controls and regulations, vendor relationship management, and strategic transformation of the AP function. This is a senior leadership role, typically overseeing large, global AP teams in a shared services or enterprise finance environment.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
1. Strategic Leadership
Define and drive the strategic direction of the Accounts Payable function aligned with overall finance and organizational goals.
Lead transformation initiatives such as automation, process reengineering, and digital payment adoption to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
Develop KPIs and benchmarks to monitor the effectiveness of AP operations and ensure continuous improvement.
2. Operational Oversight
Oversee daily AP operations, including invoice processing, payments, T&E reimbursements, and vendor reconciliations.
Ensure compliance with company policies, SOX requirements, and regulatory standards (local and global).
Monitor aging reports, accruals, and payment cycles to maintain accurate cash flow forecasting and working capital optimization.
3. Technology & Automation
Champion implementation and optimization of AP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Coupa, Ariba).
Evaluate and integrate automation solutions such as OCR, RPA (robotic process automation), and e-invoicing tools.
Drive digitization efforts to reduce manual touchpoints and processing time.
4. Team Management & Leadership
Lead and mentor large, geographically dispersed AP teams including managers and specialists.
Foster a culture of accountability, customer service, and continuous learning.
Manage recruitment, training, performance evaluation, and career development of team members.
5. Vendor Relationship Management
Ensure timely and accurate payments to vendors while maintaining strong vendor relationships.
Negotiate payment terms and resolve disputes or escalations efficiently.
Oversee vendor onboarding and data maintenance processes.
6. Internal Controls & Compliance
Implement and maintain strong internal controls to prevent fraud, duplicate payments, and policy violations.
Collaborate with internal and external auditors during audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
Ensure global AP processes adhere to tax and legal compliance (e.g., VAT, GST, 1099, withholding tax).
7. Stakeholder Engagement
Act as the key point of contact for finance leadership, procurement, treasury, and business units.
Partner with Procurement and FP&A to align on spend analysis, budgeting, and cost control.
Report performance metrics and strategic updates to CFO or executive leadership.
8. Risk and Issue Management
Proactively identify operational risks, bottlenecks, and control weaknesses.
Develop mitigation plans and lead root cause analysis and resolution of issues.
