Psychiatric Nurse / Staff Nurse – Psychiatry

Mind & Brain Hospital | Bengaluru, Karnataka
Job Type: Full-Time
Experience: 0–5 Years
Qualification: GNM / B.Sc Nursing
Department: Nursing – Inpatient Psychiatry

About the Role

Mind & Brain Hospital is looking for a compassionate and responsible Psychiatric Nurse / Staff Nurse to join our nursing team. The candidate will be responsible for providing safe, patient-centred nursing care to psychiatric inpatients and supporting the multidisciplinary clinical team.

Key Responsibilities

Provide nursing care to psychiatric inpatients as per hospital protocols.
Monitor patients' physical and mental health condition.
Conduct regular patient observations and maintain accurate records.
Administer medications as prescribed and monitor for side effects or adverse reactions.
Monitor patients at risk of self-harm, suicide, aggression, falls or absconding.
Identify and promptly report changes in patients' behaviour or clinical condition.
Assist in managing psychiatric and medical emergencies.
Use appropriate communication and de-escalation techniques when managing behavioural disturbances.
Maintain nursing notes, medication charts, observation records and other clinical documentation.
Provide proper shift handover to the incoming nursing team.
Maintain patient safety, dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
Coordinate with psychiatrists, psychologists, medical officers and other healthcare professionals.
Follow infection-control, medication-safety and hospital SOPs.
Participate in patient-care activities and therapeutic/rehabilitation programs as required.
Maintain discipline, professional conduct and appropriate boundaries with patients.

Eligibility

GNM or B.Sc Nursing from a recognized institution.
Valid registration with the applicable State Nursing Council.
Freshers can apply.
Previous experience in psychiatric/mental-health nursing or inpatient hospital settings will be an advantage.
Candidates should be willing to work in rotational shifts, including night shifts.

Skills Required

Good patient-care and observation skills.
Knowledge of basic psychiatric nursing practices.
Good communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to handle challenging and emergency situations calmly.
Empathy, patience and a non-judgmental approach.
Basic knowledge of psychiatric medications.
Good documentation and teamwork skills.
Ability to maintain professional boundaries and patient confidentiality.
