Responsibilities & Key Deliverables

As a Deputy Manager - Buying within the Farm Division of Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd, you will play a crucial role in sourcing and procurement aligned with tractor manufacturing requirements. Your responsibilities include:

Developing and executing procurement strategies to ensure timely and cost-effective acquisition of raw materials and components necessary for tractor production.
Collaborating closely with cross-functional teams including design, engineering, quality, and supply chain to forecast material requirements and optimize inventory levels.
Establishing and maintaining strong supplier relationships, negotiating contracts and terms to secure favourable pricing, quality, and delivery schedules.
Conducting supplier evaluations and audits to ensure compliance with quality standards, ethical practices, and sustainability commitments.
Analysing market trends and supplier capabilities to identify opportunities for innovation, cost reduction, and risk mitigation.
Leading procurement projects and initiatives aimed at enhancing supply chain efficiency and supporting the division’s strategic goals.
Ensuring accurate documentation, reporting, and adherence to internal controls and regulatory requirements.
Driving continuous improvement by applying best practices, leveraging technology, and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.

Your work will be central to maintaining the production flow, achieving operational excellence, and reinforcing Mahindra’s leadership in the agricultural machinery sector.

Education Qualification

The preferred educational background for this role is a Bachelor of Engineering, with a strong emphasis on Mechanical Engineering. Prospective candidates should have foundational knowledge in manufacturing processes, materials science, and supply chain principles relevant to the automotive industry, particularly tractor manufacturing.

Additional qualifications that can enhance candidacy include:
Diplomas or certifications in supply chain management, procurement, or project management.
Training in negotiation skills, contract management, and supplier relationship management.
Familiarity with ERP systems and procurement software tools.

Practical knowledge of vendor performance management and supply chain optimisation.
Experience working with cross-functional teams to align procurement strategies with production and quality requirements.
Exposure to contract negotiation, supplier audits, and risk management practices.
Demonstrated capability to identify cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality and delivery standards.

Critical Experience

Critical experience for success in this buying role includes a proven track record in strategic sourcing within the automotive industry, with particular focus on farm machinery or tractor components. Key elements include:

Demonstrated strategic business orientation, including anticipating market shifts and leveraging business opportunities to enhance procurement functions.

Experience managing supplier sustainability initiatives and aligning procurement practices with environmental and social governance standards.
