Position: SMT Supervisor

Reporting To: Production Manager / Plant Head
Experience: 3–6 Years
Qualification: Diploma / ITI / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, or relevant technical field
Job Purpose
To supervise and control the day-to-day SMT production activities, ensuring efficient operation of SMT machines, optimum production output, product quality, minimum rejection, and adherence to production schedules and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities1. SMT Production Management
- Supervise day-to-day SMT line operations for LED lighting products, LED drivers, PCB assemblies, and related electronic components.
- Ensure production targets are achieved as per daily/monthly production plans.
- Monitor machine loading, line balancing, changeovers, and manpower deployment.
- Ensure smooth and continuous production with minimum machine downtime.
- Coordinate with Production, Quality, Maintenance, Stores, and Planning teams.
2. SMT Machine & Process Handling
- Monitor operation of SMT machines such as:
- Pick & Place Machine
- Solder Paste Printer
- Reflow Oven
- SPI
- AOI
- Other PCB assembly equipment
- Ensure proper machine setup and feeder/component loading.
- Monitor machine parameters and ensure they remain within approved process specifications.
- Coordinate with maintenance teams for breakdowns and preventive maintenance.
- Support troubleshooting of machine and process-related issues.
3. Quality Control
- Ensure proper placement, soldering, polarity, component orientation, and PCB quality.
- Monitor SMT defects such as:
- Solder bridging
- Tombstoning
- Solder shortage/excess
- Component misplacement
- Missing components
- Wrong components
- Cold solder joints
- Work closely with the Quality team to reduce rejection, rework, and customer complaints.
- Ensure compliance with approved SOPs, work instructions, and quality standards.
4. Material & Component Control
- Ensure correct components and PCB materials are available before starting production.
- Verify component part numbers, values, specifications, and BOM before production.
- Coordinate with Stores for material availability and shortages.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of ESD-sensitive components and PCBs.
- Maintain proper traceability of materials and production batches.
5. Manpower Management
- Allocate operators and technicians according to production requirements.
- Monitor operator performance, discipline, attendance, and productivity.
- Train operators on SMT machines, processes, ESD precautions, and quality requirements.
- Ensure proper shift handover and communication between teams.
6. Production Reporting
- Maintain daily production records and shift-wise production reports.
- Monitor:
- Production quantity
- Rejection
- Rework
- Downtime
- Machine utilization
- Line efficiency
- Productivity
- Prepare and share daily SMT production reports with the Production Manager.
7. Process Improvement
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Work towards reducing rejection, rework, machine downtime, and material wastage.
- Improve line productivity and overall equipment utilization.
- Participate in Kaizen and continuous improvement initiatives.
8. ESD & Safety Compliance
- Ensure strict compliance with ESD requirements in the SMT area.
- Ensure operators use ESD wrist straps, ESD footwear, and other required PPE.
- Maintain 5S and housekeeping standards in the SMT production area.
- Ensure safe operation of all SMT equipment and adherence to company safety procedures.
Required Skills
- Good knowledge of SMT production processes and PCB assembly.
- Hands-on experience with SMT machines and production lines.
- Knowledge of Pick & Place, SPI, AOI, Reflow, and Solder Paste Printing processes.
- Ability to identify and troubleshoot common SMT defects.
- Good understanding of BOM, PCB, component identification, and production documentation.
- Good manpower handling and team management skills.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Knowledge of 5S, ESD, Kaizen, and basic Lean Manufacturing principles.
Preferred Experience
Candidates with experience in LED Lighting, LED Driver, PCB Assembly, Electronics Manufacturing, SMPS, or similar electronic manufacturing industries will be preferred.
