The Opportunity:
The position is accountable for configuration, data integrity, integrations, communications delivery, security, and the day to day operational health of the platform that carries every prospective student from first inquiry through enrollment.
This is a technical position. The incumbent writes queries, builds source formats, maintains the Slate rules engine, and owns the integration between Slate and Ellucian Colleague. The position has no direct reports.
What You’ll Be Doing Every Day:
Platform Configuration and Ownership
Configure and maintain Slate application forms, events, portals, decision letters, materials, checklists, and status workflows.
Build and maintain the Slate rules engine, including population rules, field maintenance rules, and workflow automation.
Administer Slate Reader, including bins, review steps, scoring, and committee workflow for application review.
Administer datasets, prompts, custom fields, and configurable joins, and enforce a documented field governance standard so the schema remains supportable.
Manage sandbox and test instances, release testing, and controlled promotion of configuration changes to production.
Evaluate Technologies quarterly releases and recommend adoption of capabilities that reduce institutional effort.
Data, Integration, and Reporting
Own the bidirectional integration between Slate and Ellucian Colleague, including student record creation, program and term mapping, and financial aid touchpoints.
Build and maintain source formats and inbound feeds, including Common App, test scores, transcript services, search names, National Student Clearinghouse, and international partner files.
Author and maintain queries, exports, and scheduled jobs supporting daily operations and executive reporting.
Own record matching, deduplication, and merge logic, and maintain the documented data dictionary and funnel stage definitions.
Produce funnel and yield reporting that reconciles to the student information system, and resolve discrepancies before they reach Cabinet or Board reporting.
Partner with the data and analytics team so that Slate data lands correctly in the University reporting environment.
Communications Delivery
Administer Slate Deliver for email and text messaging, including templates, campaigns, deliverability, authentication records, suppression lists, and bounce management.
Execute and maintain the migration of student text messaging to Slate Deliver, including opt in records, consent history, and number provisioning.
Maintain compliance with CAN-SPAM, TCPA, and University communication governance standards.
Enforce message frequency and audience governance so that students are not over contacted across communication platforms.
Security, Compliance, and Governance
Administer role based permissions on a least privilege basis, and execute quarterly access reviews and same day offboarding.
Maintain FERPA compliance in all configuration, reporting, and third party data sharing.
Maintain configuration documentation, change logs, and recovery procedures for the platform.
Support information security review of new Slate integrations, connectors, and vendor data exchanges.
Support, Training, and Project Delivery
Serve as tier 2 and tier 3 support for Slate users across Admissions, Enrollment, Financial Aid, and Athletics.
Develop and deliver training and written documentation for functional users so that platform capability is not concentrated in a single person.
Contribute to project delivery for CRM consolidation, platform retirement, and downstream integration work.
Participate in the Slate user community and applicable professional development.
Perform other job related duties as assigned.
What You Bring to the Table:
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the essential functions of this position.
Knowledge:
Bachelor’s degree, or an equivalent combination of education and directly relevant experience.
Two or more years of hands-on Slate administration or configuration experience in a higher education setting.
Working knowledge of Slate Rules, Source Formats, Configurable Joins, Deliver, and Reader.
Knowledge of admissions and enrollment funnel operations, including application review, decision release, and yield activity.
Knowledge of FERPA, CAN-SPAM, and TCPA as they apply to student records and student communication.
Knowledge of student information system data structures. Ellucian Colleague experience preferred.
Technolutions Slate certification or documented Slate Summit training preferred.
Experience migrating from Salesforce or another CRM platform to Slate preferred.
Skills:
Query writing skill in SQL or Slate query logic, including subqueries, joins, and exports, performed independently and without vendor assistance.
Configuration skill across a CRM platform, including forms, workflow automation, and permission structures.
Integration skill, including file based feeds, scheduled jobs, and web service connections between systems.
Technical writing skill sufficient to produce documentation that another administrator can follow.
Working skill with XML, XSLT, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript as used in Slate portals and Deliver templates, preferred.
Scripting skill in Python or a comparable language for data preparation, preferred.
Troubleshooting skill sufficient to isolate a defect between the CRM, the integration layer, and the student information system.
Abilities:
Ability to translate a functional request into a supportable technical configuration, and to decline configuration that will not scale.
Ability to treat platform health as a personal accountability rather than a queue of tickets.
Ability to reconcile reported figures to the source system, and to withhold any figure that cannot be substantiated.
Ability to work to deadline during peak application, decision release, and term start cycles, including occasional evening and weekend hours.
Ability to partner effectively with admissions counselors, enrollment leadership, and technical staff.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of student records at all times.
