KITCHEN SUPERVISOR — i'Deli Cafe
Lead the Kitchen Team. Maintain Quality. Deliver Consistency.
We are opening a new i'Deli Cafe outlet in Kakkanad, Kochi, and are looking for an experienced and responsible Kitchen Supervisor to support kitchen operations, supervise the kitchen team, maintain food quality and hygiene standards, and ensure smooth service during every shift.
Kitchen Operations
- Supervise daily kitchen operations and ensure smooth workflow.
- Coordinate effectively with the service and floor teams.
- Ensure food preparation and service are completed on time.
- Monitor kitchen activities during peak operating hours.
- Ensure proper opening, shift handover, and closing procedures.
Team Supervision
- Allocate duties to kitchen team members according to operational requirements.
- Monitor attendance, grooming, discipline, and performance.
- Conduct shift briefings and communicate daily priorities.
- Support and motivate the kitchen team.
- Assist in training and developing kitchen staff.
Food Quality & Consistency
- Ensure all food is prepared according to i'Deli Cafe recipes, SOPs, and quality standards.
- Monitor portion sizes, presentation, taste, and consistency.
- Check food before service when required.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of ingredients.
- Immediately report quality issues to the Kitchen Manager or Restaurant Manager.
Hygiene & Food Safety
- Maintain high standards of kitchen cleanliness and sanitation.
- Ensure all staff follow food-safety and hygiene procedures.
- Monitor personal hygiene and grooming of kitchen employees.
- Ensure proper food storage, temperature control, product rotation, and handling.
- Minimise the risk of cross-contamination and food wastage.
Inventory & Stock Control
- Monitor daily kitchen stock and ingredient availability.
- Support receiving and checking of kitchen supplies.
- Ensure proper storage and FIFO product rotation.
- Monitor stock movement and wastage.
- Report shortages, damaged items, and wastage to management.
Cost & Wastage Control
- Support management in controlling food cost and kitchen expenses.
- Monitor portion control and ingredient usage.
- Minimise unnecessary wastage.
- Ensure efficient utilisation of kitchen resources.
Service Coordination
- Coordinate with the Floor Supervisor and service team to ensure timely order preparation.
- Monitor order accuracy and kitchen ticket flow.
- Communicate delays or operational issues immediately.
- Maintain smooth communication between kitchen and front-of-house teams.
Training & Development
- Train kitchen staff on recipes, preparation methods, hygiene, safety, and SOPs.
- Coach new employees during their induction and training period.
- Monitor staff performance and provide feedback.
- Support continuous improvement in kitchen operations.
Equipment & Safety
- Ensure kitchen equipment is used correctly and safely.
- Report equipment breakdowns or maintenance requirements immediately.
- Maintain safe working practices within the kitchen.
- Ensure work areas remain organised and free from unnecessary hazards.
New Outlet Opening
- Support the launch of the new Kakkanad outlet.
- Assist with kitchen team recruitment, training, and deployment.
- Support pre-opening preparation and kitchen setup.
- Ensure recipes, SOPs, hygiene practices, and kitchen routines are established before opening.
- Help ensure the kitchen is fully operational and service-ready from day one.
The Person We Are Looking For
The ideal candidate should demonstrate:
- Strong kitchen supervision and team-management skills.
- Good knowledge of food preparation and restaurant operations.
- Strong understanding of food hygiene and safety.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure.
- Good communication and coordination skills.
- Strong attention to detail and quality.
- Good knowledge of stock control and wastage management.
- Professional attitude, discipline, and reliability.
Experience
- 2–4 years of experience in restaurant, café, hotel, or commercial kitchen operations preferred.
- Previous experience as a Kitchen Supervisor, CDP, Senior Commis, Kitchen Team Leader, or similar role is an advantage.
- Experience in premium cafés, restaurants, QSR, or hospitality brands is preferred.
- New outlet opening experience will be an added advantage.
Education
- Diploma or degree in Hotel Management / Culinary Arts preferred.
- Relevant kitchen experience and demonstrated supervisory ability will also be considered.
