Job Description – Professor of Law

Position: Professor – School of Law
Department: School of Law
Reports To: Dean / Head of School of Law
Employment Type: Full-Time
Location: Campus

Position Overview

The Professor of Law will provide academic and research leadership within the School of Law. The role involves delivering advanced legal education, leading research initiatives, mentoring faculty and students, supervising doctoral research, developing academic programmes, and contributing to the strategic growth and academic excellence of the School.

The Professor is expected to maintain high standards of teaching and research while contributing to institutional development, regulatory compliance, and national and international academic engagement.

Key Responsibilities

Deliver high-quality lectures, seminars, tutorials, case discussions, and advanced academic sessions in Law.
Teach undergraduate, postgraduate, doctoral, and other law programmes as assigned.
Develop and review course curricula, syllabi, teaching methodologies, and academic resources.
Provide academic leadership and mentorship to Assistant Professors, Associate Professors, and other faculty members.
Supervise and guide Ph.D. scholars and doctoral research candidates.
Undertake high-quality independent and collaborative research in areas of specialization.
Publish research papers in peer-reviewed and UGC-listed journals and other reputed academic publications.
Lead research projects and contribute to securing external research grants and funding.
Develop interdisciplinary and collaborative research programmes with national and international institutions.
Organize and participate in conferences, seminars, workshops, faculty development programmes, and academic forums.
Promote moot courts, legal aid clinics, internships, clinical legal education, and other experiential learning activities.
Mentor students and scholars in academic, research, professional, and career development.
Contribute to curriculum development and academic policy formulation.
Participate in departmental, faculty, and university-level academic and administrative committees.
Support accreditation, ranking, inspection, quality assurance, and statutory compliance activities.
Establish and strengthen collaborations with universities, research institutions, courts, law firms, corporates, government bodies, and professional organizations.
Represent the School/University in academic and professional forums when required.
Contribute to institutional strategic planning and academic development.
Undertake other academic, research, and administrative responsibilities assigned by the Dean/Head or University authorities.

Essential Qualification

An eminent scholar with a Ph.D. degree in Law or a concerned/allied/relevant discipline from a recognized university/institution.
The candidate should have an outstanding academic and research profile with demonstrated contributions to the field of Law.

Experience

Minimum 10 years of teaching experience as an Assistant Professor, Associate Professor, Professor, or equivalent academic position.
Demonstrated experience in successfully guiding at least one doctoral candidate.
Strong evidence of sustained academic, research, and scholarly contributions.

Research & Publications

Minimum 10 research publications in peer-reviewed or UGC-listed journals, as applicable.
Demonstrated record of high-quality research and scholarly publications.
Experience in research projects, funded research, academic collaborations, conferences, seminars, and other scholarly activities will be preferred.

Research Score

Minimum total Research Score of 120, as prescribed under the applicable UGC Regulations and Appendix II/III, Table 2.

BCI / Legal Education Requirements

The candidate must possess the required academic qualifications in Law.
The candidate must satisfy applicable Bar Council of India (BCI) requirements for faculty appointment in a Centre/School of Legal Education.
Candidates with significant contributions to legal education, research, clinical legal education, moot courts, legal aid, or professional legal practice will be preferred.

Selection Committee

The appointment shall be made through the duly constituted Selection Committee comprising:

Vice-Chancellor – Chairperson
Academician not below the rank of Professor, nominated by the Visitor/Chancellor
Subject Experts nominated by the Vice-Chancellor

The selection process shall be conducted in accordance with the applicable UGC Regulations, BCI requirements, University Statutes/Ordinances, and other relevant regulatory provisions.

Preferred Profile

Preference may be given to candidates with:

Successful Ph.D. supervision experience beyond the minimum requirement
Strong record of publications in reputed national/international journals
Experience in obtaining and managing funded research projects
Academic leadership or administrative experience
Experience in curriculum development and institutional policy
National/international academic collaborations
Significant contribution to legal education and research
Experience with accreditation, ranking, or statutory/regulatory processes

Pay: ₹40,000.00 - ₹80,000.00 per month
