Job Description – Biochemist (Spices & Herbs Extraction)

Position: Biochemist – Research & Development (R&D)
Location: Thrissur, Kerala
Experience: Minimum 10 Years
Industry: Spices, Herbs, Food Processing / Nutraceuticals
Salary: ₹40,000 per month

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Biochemist with at least 10 years of experience in the spices and herbs extraction industry. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in blending, extraction technologies, product development, quality improvement, and leading Research & Development (R&D) activities.

Key Responsibilities

Lead the Research & Development (R&D) team for spices and herbal extraction products.
Develop innovative spice blends, herbal extracts, oleoresins, and value-added products.
Design and optimize extraction processes using solvent, steam distillation, supercritical CO₂, or other extraction techniques.
Conduct laboratory experiments, stability studies, and product validation.
Ensure product quality, consistency, and compliance with food safety standards.
Develop new formulations based on customer requirements and market trends.
Collaborate with production, quality assurance, and procurement teams.
Maintain technical documentation, SOPs, research reports, and product specifications.
Evaluate raw materials and identify opportunities for process improvements and cost optimization.
Ensure compliance with FSSAI, GMP, HACCP, ISO 22000, and other applicable quality standards.
Mentor and lead laboratory and R&D staff.

Required Qualifications

M.Sc. / Ph.D. in Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Food Science, Chemistry, or a related field.
Minimum 10 years of experience in spices, herbs extraction, food ingredients, or nutraceutical manufacturing.
Strong knowledge of spice blending, herbal extraction, phytochemicals, and analytical testing.
Experience with laboratory instruments such as HPLC, GC, UV-Vis Spectrophotometer, and other analytical equipment is preferred.
Excellent leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Skills

Expertise in spice and herb extraction technologies.
Product formulation and process optimization.
Knowledge of food safety regulations and quality systems.
Strong communication and team leadership abilities.
Project management and innovation-driven mindset.

Compensation

Salary: ₹40,000 per month (Negotiable based on experience and qualifications)

Location Preference

Preferred Candidate: Thrissur or nearby locations in Kerala.

Language & Communication Requirements

Mother Tongue: Malayalam (Preferred)
Languages Required: Fluent in Malayalam, English, and Hindi.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with production teams, suppliers, customers, and management.
