We’re looking for a 3D Design Engineer to join our team and work across 3D scanning, reverse engineering, CAD modelling, product development for 3D printing.
This is not just a conventional 3D modelling role. You’ll be working with real-world objects, customer requirements, 3D scans and engineering components, transforming them into accurate, functional and production-ready 3D models.
What You’ll Do
- Perform and process 3D scans of physical objects and components
- Clean, repair and prepare scanned meshes for further modelling
- Reverse engineer physical components into accurate CAD models
- Create parametric 3D models from measurements, scans, drawings and references
- Modify and improve existing designs based on customer or production requirements
- Work with STL, STEP, OBJ, IGES and other 3D file formats
- Design components specifically for 3D printing and digital manufacturing
- Consider tolerances, wall thickness, clearances, fit and dimensional accuracy
- Prepare large models for printing, including scaling, splitting and assembly/joining features
- Identify and resolve geometry and printability issues before production
- Work closely with the customer, operations and production teams
- Maintain accuracy and quality throughout the design-to-production process
What We’re Looking For
- Degree/Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Design or a related field
- Strong experience in 3D CAD modelling and design
- Good understanding of engineering drawings, dimensions, tolerances and measurements
- Experience or strong interest in reverse engineering
- Understanding of 3D scanning and mesh processing
- Good understanding of 3D printing and design-for-additive-manufacturing principles
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Excellent attention to detail and dimensional accuracy
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of projects
- Good communication and teamwork skills
Software Experience
Experience with one or more of the following:
Fusion 360 | SolidWorks | Rhino | Blender | Geomagic | MeshLab | ZBrush | or similar CAD/3D software
Knowledge of 3D scanning and mesh-repair software will be an added advantage.
What Will Give You an Edge
Experience in:
- Reverse engineering real-world components
- 3D scanning and scan-to-CAD workflows
- FDM and resin 3D printing
- Designing functional mechanical parts
- Large-format 3D printing
- Creating assembly/joining systems for large printed models
- Product development or prototyping
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone who can look at a physical problem, understand the geometry, engineer the solution and turn it into something we can actually manufacture.
