We're building a YouTube channel of preschool nursery-rhyme videos — starting with Chaki Ben, a Gujarati rhyme about a sparrow, a child, and their animal friends. Every video runs on a detailed, scene-by-scene production brief: exact easing curves, blink timing, lip-sync references, a locked color palette, and a full character bible. We need an animator who can execute that level of detail faithfully, and who can also originate new characters — clean, on-model, turnaround-ready — as the channel's cast grows.
About the Role
This is a dual role. Day to day, you'll animate full episodes from our production briefs: character acting, walk/hop/lumber cycles, lip-sync to non-English vocals, squash-and-stretch, and all the small ‘alive’ details — blinks, breathing loops, held poses — that make a preschool video feel warm rather than mechanical. Alongside that, you'll build and maintain a reusable character suite for the channel: turnaround sheets, expression and mouth libraries, and model sheets that keep every character on-model across dozens of future videos, animated by you or handed to other artists.
Twelve months in, you'll have shipped several episodes at our quality bar and built out a complete, production-ready character suite that lets us launch new episodes faster without re-solving character design from scratch each time.
What You'll Do
- Animate full episodes end-to-end from detailed production briefs — timing, easing, squash & stretch, anticipation, and expressive acting — to a high quality bar.
- Design and build a reusable character suite for new and existing characters: turnaround sheets (front, 3/4, side, back), expression sheets, and a simple mouth-shape library for lip-sync.
- Rig characters in Toon Boom Harmony or After Effects for efficient, reusable production across episodes.
- Lip-sync animation to non-English (e.g. Gujarati) vocal tracks using phonetic transliteration and mouth-shape references.
- Maintain visual consistency — palette, line weight, shading style — across characters, props, and backgrounds as the cast and world expand.
- Work through staged milestone reviews (style frames, animatic, rough pass, final render) and incorporate feedback at each stage.
- Deliver clean, organized production files: masters, source project files, character turnarounds, and clean background plates.
What We're Looking For
Required:
- 3+ years of professional 2D and 3D character animation experience (kids' content, commercials, series, or YouTube production).
- A portfolio or reel showing character animation specifically — walk cycles, lip-sync, expressive acting — not motion graphics alone.
- Working proficiency in Toon Boom Harmony and/or Adobe After Effects.
- Solid grounding in animation principles: easing, anticipation, squash & stretch, holds, and secondary motion.
- Experience designing original characters from a brief or reference and producing turnaround/model sheets.
- Comfortable working from detailed written briefs and hitting staged review deadlines.
Preferred (nice to have):
- Experience animating specifically for a preschool audience (ages 2–4).
- An illustration or character design background.
- Familiarity with Gujarati or other Indian cultural context, and comfort flagging anything that reads as inauthentic in props, settings, or character detail.
Compensation & Details
- ₹30,000–₹40,000 per month, based on experience.
- Full-time, on-site in Ahmedabad, India.
