Job Summary
The Senior Laboratory Technician is responsible for performing, supervising, and ensuring the accuracy of laboratory investigations while maintaining quality standards and compliance with NABH, biomedical waste management, and hospital protocols. The role includes guiding junior laboratory staff, maintaining laboratory equipment, ensuring timely reporting of test results, and supporting quality patient care in a Mother & Child Care Hospital.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory investigations with accuracy and efficiency.
- Collect, receive, label, process, and analyze patient samples following standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments and analyzers.
- Validate test results before reporting and immediately notify critical values to the concerned clinician.
- Ensure timely reporting of laboratory investigations.
- Supervise and guide junior laboratory technicians and support staff.
- Maintain laboratory quality control (Internal & External Quality Assurance) and documentation.
- Ensure proper inventory management of reagents, consumables, and laboratory supplies.
- Coordinate with purchase and stores departments to avoid stock shortages.
- Follow infection control practices and Biomedical Waste Management guidelines.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the laboratory.
- Ensure compliance with NABH standards, hospital policies, and statutory regulations.
- Assist in training new laboratory staff and interns.
- Handle emergency laboratory investigations during night shifts and medical emergencies.
- Coordinate with doctors, nursing staff, and other departments for smooth laboratory operations.
- Maintain confidentiality of patient information and laboratory records.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly laboratory reports as required by management.
Required Qualifications
- B.Sc. Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) / DMLT with relevant experience.
- Registration with the appropriate authority (if applicable).
- Additional certifications in quality management or laboratory operations will be an added advantage.
Experience
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a hospital laboratory.
- Experience in a Mother & Child Care Hospital will be preferred.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Hematology, Biochemistry, Clinical Pathology, Serology, Immunology, and Microbiology.
- Knowledge of laboratory quality control procedures.
- Familiarity with automated laboratory analyzers.
- Good documentation and record-keeping skills.
- Leadership and team management abilities.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency cases.
- Basic computer knowledge and Laboratory Information System (LIS) experience.

Working Conditions
- Rotational shifts including Day, Evening, Night, weekends, and public holidays as per hospital duty roster.
- May be required to work additional hours during emergencies or high patient volume.
- Requires prolonged standing, specimen handling, and adherence to infection control protocols.

Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹30,000.00 per month
