Assistant Geotechnical Supervisor – Soil Mechanics & Testing
Position Overview
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Assistant Geotechnical Supervisor with 2 to 5 years of experience in soil testing and field investigations. In this role, you will support the Geotechnical Supervisor in leading field crews and laboratory technicians, ensuring that all soil sampling, logging, and testing are executed with high accuracy. This is an excellent step-up opportunity for an experienced field/lab technician or junior engineer ready to transition into a leadership and supervisory role.
Key Responsibilities
- Field & Lab Support: Assist in supervising daily field drilling, soil sampling, and laboratory testing operations. Step in to lead crews in the supervisor's absence.
- Soil Testing Coordination: Conduct and oversee routine and advanced soil tests (e.g., compaction, Atterberg limits, sieve analysis, direct shear, and consolidation) ensuring adherence to ASTM/AASHTO standards.
- Soil Logging: Perform and verify field soil classification (USCS) and accurately document standard penetration testing (SPT) and cone penetration testing (CPT) data.
- Data Verification: Review laboratory data sheets and field logs for accuracy before submitting them to the engineering team.
- Safety & Equipment Maintenance: Monitor site safety compliance and ensure laboratory testing equipment is properly calibrated and maintained.
Qualifications & Skills
- Experience: 2–5 years of hands-on experience in geotechnical laboratory testing and/or field soil investigation.
- Education: Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Geology, Geotechnical Technology, or a related field.
- Technical Skills: Proficient in standard soil classification and laboratory testing procedures. Familiarity with geotechnical software (e.g., gINT) is a plus.
- Leadership Potential: Strong organizational skills with the desire and ability to mentor junior technicians and manage field schedules.
- Certifications: Active certifications (such as NICET or ACI) are highly preferred.
