Position: Mechanical Quality Control Engineer – Underground (UG) Piping

Job Summary
The Mechanical Quality Control Engineer – UG Piping is responsible for ensuring that all underground piping installation activities are executed in accordance with approved project specifications, applicable codes and standards, Inspection & Test Plans (ITPs), and client requirements. The role includes inspection, quality surveillance, documentation control, testing coordination, and ensuring mechanical completion of UG piping systems.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Control & Inspection
* Perform inspection and surveillance of underground piping activities including excavation, trench preparation, bedding, pipe laying, alignment, jointing, and backfilling.
* Verify compliance of construction activities with approved drawings, specifications, procedures, and project quality requirements.
* Conduct stage-wise inspections as per approved Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs).
* Monitor installation of piping systems including Carbon Steel, HDPE, GRE/GRP, RTRP, Ductile Iron, and utility piping networks.
* Ensure proper identification and traceability of piping materials.
Documentation & Quality Records
* Review and maintain quality records, inspection reports, and test reports.
* Verify material test certificates (MTCs), inspection releases, and vendor documentation.
* Prepare and maintain inspection dossiers and turnover packages.
* Ensure timely closure of inspection records and quality documentation.
Testing & Verification
* Witness and verify hydrostatic testing, pneumatic testing, leak testing, and flushing activities.
* Verify pipe routing, elevations, coordinates, slopes, and invert levels before backfilling.
* Coordinate survey verification for underground piping alignment.
* Ensure all test equipment and measuring instruments are calibrated and valid.
Non-Conformance Management
* Identify quality deviations and raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) where required.
* Monitor corrective and preventive actions for quality issues.
* Participate in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective measures.
* Track punch points and ensure closure before system handover.
Coordination & Client Interface
* Coordinate inspections with client representatives, consultants, and third-party inspection agencies.
* Attend quality meetings and construction coordination meetings.
* Support construction teams in resolving quality-related issues.
* Ensure timely inspection requests (IRs) are submitted and approved.
Code & Standards Compliance
* Ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications such as:
* ASME B31.3 / B31.4 / B31.8
* ASTM Standards
* API Standards
* IS Codes
* Project Specifications and Client Standards
* Verify adherence to approved method statements and quality procedures.
HSE Compliance
* Promote quality and safety culture at the worksite.
* Ensure inspections are carried out in accordance with site HSE requirements.
* Participate in safety observations and toolbox talks when required.
Qualifications
* Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
* Additional QA/QC certifications will be an advantage.
* CSWIP, ASNT Level II, NDT certifications, or equivalent preferred.
Experience
* Minimum 10-15 years of QA/QC experience in industrial construction projects.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in underground piping quality control.
* Experience in refinery, petrochemical, LNG, fertilizer, chemical, or oil & gas projects preferred.
* Familiarity with EPC project quality management systems.
Technical Competencies
* Strong understanding of UG piping installation and inspection requirements.
* Knowledge of welding inspection and NDT requirements.
* Familiarity with hydrotesting, flushing, and pre-commissioning activities.
* Ability to interpret P&IDs, isometrics, plot plans, and piping layouts.
* Experience with quality documentation, ITPs, MIRs, WIRs, and inspection records.
* Proficient in MS Office and quality reporting systems.

Objective
To ensure all underground piping systems at the Dahej site are installed, inspected, tested, documented, and handed over in full compliance with project specifications, applicable codes, quality standards, and client requirements while supporting safe and efficient project execution.
Pay: ₹25,000.00 - ₹60,000.00 per month
Work Location: In person
