Role Summary
Responsible for validation, testing, and commissioning of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) at component, pack, and container level. Ensures system performance, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Testing & Validation
- Develop and execute test plans for:
- Battery packs (Li-ion, LFP, etc.)
- BMS (Battery Management System)
- PCS (Power Conversion System)
- Complete BESS containers
- Perform electrical, thermal, functional, and safety testing
- Conduct FAT (Factory Acceptance Test) and SAT (Site Acceptance Test)
2. System Integration Testing
- Validate interfaces between battery, BMS, PCS, EMS, and SCADA
- Test communication protocols (CAN, Modbus, Ethernet)
- Perform charge-discharge cycle testing and efficiency validation
3. Compliance & Standards
- Ensure testing as per standards like:
- IEC / UL / BIS relevant to BESS
- Support certification processes and documentation
4. Data Analysis & Reporting
- Analyze test data and identify performance gaps
- Prepare detailed test reports and failure analysis
- Suggest corrective actions and design improvements
5. Troubleshooting & Root Cause Analysis
- Diagnose issues in battery systems, wiring, control logic
- Work closely with design, quality, and production teams
6. Test Infrastructure Setup
- Define and set up test benches, load banks, cyclers
- Support automation of testing where applicable
Qualifications
- B.E / B.Tech / Diploma in Electrical / Electronics / Mechatronics
- 3–8 years experience in BESS, EV, battery, or power electronics testing
Required Skills
- Strong understanding of:
- Lithium-ion batteries & BMS
- Power electronics & inverters
- Hands-on with:
- Battery cyclers, HV testing equipment
- Data acquisition systems
- Knowledge of:
- CAN tools, Modbus tools
- Safety practices for high voltage systems
