Position Title: Usher - Manager
1. Position Overview
The Usher Executive is responsible for leading, training, evaluating, and managing the complete usher workforce of the museum. This role ensures that all ushers and performers deliver a consistent, high-quality, visitor-centric experience aligned with the museum’s curatorial intent, storyline, and interpretative design. The position requires strong leadership, operational discipline, and the ability to translate museum content into accurate behavioural, narrative, and performance-based visitor engagement. Usher Executive Should have knowledge of Vadnagar History and overall knowledge of Archaeology. The Usher Executive is accountable for daily on-floor performance quality, service standards, compliance, and overall visitor satisfaction.
2. Key Duties and Responsibilities
A. Training, Development & Performance Direction
1. Lead the complete training programme for all ushers for a every month twice including script delivery, performance behaviour, positioning, movement, and audience interaction.
2. Interpret content, story lines, and gallery narratives provided by the Content Writer/Storyteller and convert them into training instructions.
3. Develop standard performance scripts, cues, gestures, behaviour guidelines, and contingency instructions for ushers.
4. Conduct periodic checks, audits, and shadow observations to evaluate performance quality and adherence to museum intent.
5. Identify gaps and implement corrective training, improvisation techniques, and refresher programs.
B. Operations & Floor Management
1. Oversee daily deployment, scheduling, punctuality, grooming, and gallery assignment of all ushers.
2. Ensure ushers maintain correct posture, communication etiquette, and interpretive delivery across galleries.
3. Monitor crowd flow, visitor management, accessibility guidance, and special performance requirements during events, VIP visits, and high-footfall days.
4. Oversee usher conduct during emergency procedures, evacuation protocols, and safety-related communication.
C. Quality Assurance & Compliance
1. Ensure every usher adheres to museum behavioural standards, multilingual communication expectations, and visitor service protocols.
2. Conduct regular evaluations and maintain written performance logs for all usher staff.
D. Coordination & Stakeholder Interaction
1. Work closely with the Museum Manager on operational planning, manpower allocation, and improvement initiatives.
2. Coordinate with HR regarding usher recruitment, assessment criteria, and performance management.
3. Participate in official meetings, reviews, and strategic discussions related to visitor experience enhancement.
E. Administrative Responsibilities
1. Prepare training schedules, performance rosters, daily reports, and quarterly performance assessments.
2. Maintain attendance, leave planning, discipline records, and skill-development documentation.
3. Ensure compliance with all museum policies, safety rules, and Government/Authority guidelines.
4. Assist in creating SOPs for usher operations, visitor engagement, behaviour protocols, and gallery movement procedures.
3. Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree from a nationally or internationally recognised institution
- Should have knowledge of Vadnagar History and overall knowledge of Archaeology
4. Required Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an Archaeology Experience or Performer Trainer with demonstrated capability in coaching actors/performers.
- Experience directing shows, theatre productions, or experiential performance teams is essential.
5. Key Competencies
- Excellent leadership and people-management skills.
- Ability to communicate concepts clearly through demonstration and instruction.
- Understanding of visitor behaviour, audience engagement, and museum interpretation.
- Ability to manage high-pressure visitor environments, emergencies, and rapid decision-making.
- Strong communication in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
6. Working Conditions On-site role with active presence on the gallery floor during visitor hours and Training sessions. Extended hours required during special events, rehearsals, inaugurations, and VIP tours. Must be able to observe, correct, and demonstrate physical movements and communication styles.

Pay: ₹50,000.00 - ₹65,000.00 per month
