The company provides financing to corporates and individuals to acquire automobiles and heavy equipment. LALCO has over 600 employees across its headquarters in Vientiane and branches in all major cities in Laos, Singapore, and Sri Lanka (Orient City, Dematagoda, Colombo). We are looking for a System Support Engineer to support LALCO staff in Laos with a strong emphasis on data management, Excel-based reporting, and MySQL database operations. This is an onsite role based in Vientiane, Laos.
Key Responsibilities
Data Management & Reporting
- Design, build, and maintain complex Excel workbooks including pivot tables, dashboards, and automated reports to support business operations.
- Perform data extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) from MySQL databases into Excel for analysis and reporting.
- Write and optimize MySQL queries to retrieve, aggregate, and validate large datasets for business reporting needs.
- Conduct data crunching and analysis to generate actionable insights for management and department heads.
- Manage and maintain large-scale Excel-based data systems currently in use across the organization, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Develop and implement data cleaning procedures to eliminate errors, duplicates, and inconsistencies across spreadsheet databases.
- Automate repetitive reporting tasks using Excel macros (VBA) to improve efficiency.
IT System Support
- Provide onsite L1/L2 IT support to LALCO staff including desktop, software, and server troubleshooting.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade software systems and resolve technical issues at user and server level.
- Perform system analysis and recommend improvements to both IT infrastructure and data systems.
- Perform regular maintenance checks to ensure systems operate at optimal efficiency.
- Vendor management and coordination with internal application teams to troubleshoot issues.
Requirements & Skills
Essential – Data & Database Skills
- Advanced Excel proficiency: pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, INDEX-MATCH, complex formulas, data validation, conditional formatting, and charting.
- Excel VBA / Macro development for automation of repetitive data tasks.
- Proficient in MySQL: writing queries (SELECT, JOIN, GROUP BY, subqueries), stored procedures, and data exports.
- Experience managing and maintaining large Excel-based databases and flat-file data systems.
- Ability to perform data crunching, reconciliation, and quality checks across multiple data sources.
- Experience building management dashboards and scheduled reports from raw data.
IT & Technical Skills
- Recent ICT graduate with 3 to 5 years of experience in a L1/L2 IT support role or similar.
- Desktop support and server support experience.
- Familiarity with SQL databases (MySQL preferred).
- Excellent problem-solving skills for both technical issues and data discrepancies.
Soft Skills & Work Traits
- Strong customer service focus with a desire to deliver high-quality, accurate outputs.
- Ability to work under pressure, manage multiple tasks, and meet reporting deadlines.
- A team player with a customer-focused and data-driven approach. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
