A Side Panel & Roof Fitter responsible for aligning, positioning, and securing the main structural shell of a vehicle. This role focuses on joining the vehicle's side structures and roof panel to the underbody chassis, creating the core safety cage of the automobile.Job Overview
- Department: Body Shop / Body-in-White (BIW) Assembly
- Core Goal: Build the structural upper body cage of the vehicle.
- Safety Level: High (Handles heavy structural sheet metal and heavy machinery).
Key Responsibilities
- Load and position panels: Place side body structures and roof panels into precision assembly jigs and fixtures.
- Align geometric gaps: Measure and verify flushness and gap tolerances between the roof, side panels, and doors using calipers and gauges.
- Execute joining techniques: Operate resistance spot-welding guns, riveting tools, or structural adhesive applicators to secure panels.
- Manage automated tooling: Coordinate with robotic material handlers and framing stations that lock the body structure together.
- Install roof reinforcements: Fit roof bows, headers, and side curtain airbag brackets prior to the main skin installation.
- Perform quality checks: Inspect panels for dents, scratches, weld defects, or misalignments before sending the body to the paint shop.
Required Skills & Qualifications
- Technical skills: Experience with spot welding, riveting, and industrial structural bonding.
- Blueprint reading: Ability to interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, and geometric dimensioning tolerances (GD&T).
- Physical capabilities: Stamina to lift heavy panels, bend, and work at heights (for roof installation).
- Precision tracking: High attention to detail to ensure vehicle symmetry and crash-structure integrity.
- Experience: High school diploma, vocational training in automotive manufacturing, or 1–2 years of experience in a BIW body shop.
Pay: ₹20,000.00 - ₹26,000.00 per month
