Position Summary
The Senior Engineer – Code Compliance, Electrical & Thermal Products will support Vertiv Power and Thermal Management product lines by ensuring that product designs, engineering documentation, electrical systems, thermal systems, components, submittals, and certification deliverables comply with applicable product safety standards, electrical codes, thermal equipment requirements, customer specifications, and regional regulatory expectations.
This role is intended for a senior engineer with 5–10 years of experience in electrical design, thermal product engineering, safety/compliance, certification support, design review, or code compliance for industrial, data center, HVAC, power, or critical infrastructure products.

Key Responsibilities Electrical & Power Product Compliance
- Review electrical schematics, single-line/three-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, power calculations, grounding and bonding systems, cable management, lighting/power distribution plans, monitoring/control systems, BOMs, installation documents, and maintenance documentation.
- Ensure electrical designs comply with applicable electrical codes, product safety requirements, customer specifications, and regional regulatory expectations.
- Support compliance for power products such as UPS, switchgear, switchboards, PDUs, power distribution systems, energy storage, integrated modular solutions, and site monitoring systems.
- Support standards alignment for power products such as UL891 switchboards and UL1558 switchgear where applicable.
Thermal Product Compliance
- Review thermal product designs and documentation for CRAC, fan wall, AHU, XDU, chiller, air cooling, liquid cooling, heat rejection, and heat reuse systems.
- Support compliance review of submittals, airflow summaries, unit drawings, component performance, fan data, filter data, electrical cabinet heat calculations, safety notes, and component specification sheets.
- Support testing, commissioning, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting documentation, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, Site Acceptance Test procedures, and incident documentation where relevant to compliance deliverables.
- Support refrigerant and regulatory-readiness reviews for cooling products, including low-GWP refrigerant transition requirements when applicable.
Cross-Product Standards & Certification Support
- Interpret and apply product safety, electrical, thermal, environmental, and regional standards during NPD, sustaining engineering, customer projects, product changes, and product release activities.
- Participate in design reviews with engineering, product management, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and business unit teams to identify compliance risks early and recommend corrective actions.
- Maintain compliance checklists, standards matrices, technical justifications, evidence packages, compliance reports, and audit-ready documentation.
- Coordinate with internal compliance teams, certification bodies, suppliers, and product teams for certification evidence, product approvals, component changes, and compliance documentation.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Power Systems, or related engineering discipline.
Experience
5–10 years of experience in electrical design, thermal/HVAC product engineering, compliance engineering, product safety, certification support, or code compliance.
Product exposure
Experience with power systems, power distribution, switchgear/switchboards, UPS, PDUs, racks, electrical panels, HVAC systems, CRAC, AHU, fan wall, XDU, chiller, liquid cooling, or data center infrastructure products.
Electrical capability
Ability to review schematics, wiring diagrams, power calculations, grounding/bonding, control panels, component selections, BOMs, and installation documents.
Thermal capability
Understanding of thermal product operation, airflow, cooling performance, hydronic/hydraulic/pneumatic fundamentals, and data center cooling principles.
Standards knowledge
Working knowledge of NEC, UL, CSA, IEC, CE, NFPA 70E, thermal/HVAC-related standards, and regional compliance requirements relevant to the product scope.
Documentation
Ability to prepare compliance matrices, design review notes, certification evidence, risk assessments, test documentation, corrective-action records, and technical justifications.
Collaboration
Ability to work with product engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical/thermal engineering, quality, manufacturing, sourcing, suppliers, certification agencies, and business unit teams.
Desirable Qualifications
- Prior experience in data center infrastructure, critical power, thermal management, cooling systems, industrial electrical equipment, or mission-critical products.
- Experience with power products such as UPS, switchgear, switchboards, PDUs, battery/energy storage systems, power distribution systems, and integrated modular solutions.
- Experience with thermal products such as CRAC, fan wall, AHU, XDU, chillers, direct expansion systems, chilled water systems, liquid cooling, heat rejection, and heat reuse systems.
- Familiarity with emerging high voltage data center and server rack standards.
- Familiarity with product certifications and regional compliance requirements across North America, Europe, and global markets.
- Refrigerant regulations, low-GWP refrigerant readiness, and LEED and BREAM sustainability documentation as applies to Data Centers where applicable.
