Job Purpose
The Mechanical Maintenance Shift Incharge will be responsible for managing mechanical maintenance activities during the shift, ensuring quick response to breakdowns, effective preventive maintenance, equipment reliability, team coordination, and proper maintenance documentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate immediate response to all mechanical breakdowns during the shift.
- Maintain accurate breakdown logs with problem, cause, and corrective actions.
- Ensure scheduled preventive maintenance tasks are completed as per maintenance plans.
- Conduct routine inspections and condition monitoring (vibration, temperature, lubrication).
- Verify PM checklists and close tasks with proper documentation.
- Allocate jobs to technicians, fitters, and contractors based on skill and urgency.
- Supervise and guide the team during breakdowns, PM, shutdowns, and improvement jobs.
- Conduct proper shift handover with clear reports on tasks completed and pending.
- Coordinate with production teams for job planning.
- Report unsafe acts/conditions and take corrective actions promptly.
- Monitor running equipment such as gearboxes, pumps, cranes, hydraulics, conveyors, and valves.
- Ensure lubrication systems are working properly and oil levels are adequate.
- Report deviations that may lead to future failures.
- Maintain proper shift reports, breakdown reports, PM checklists, and logbooks.
- Provide clear communication and regular updates to the Manager regarding maintenance activities, breakdowns, pending jobs, and critical issues.
Candidate Profile
- Diploma / ITI / BE / B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
- Relevant experience in mechanical maintenance, preferably in a steel manufacturing or heavy engineering industry.
- Strong knowledge of mechanical equipment, preventive maintenance, breakdown maintenance, and troubleshooting.
- Good team handling and shift coordination skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a shift-based manufacturing environment.
