The Lathe Machine Operator is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining conventional lathe machines to manufacture components as per engineering drawings, quality standards, and production schedules.
Key Responsibilities:
- Operate lathe machines to perform turning, facing, drilling, boring, threading, grooving, and taper turning operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, process sheets, and work instructions.
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and measuring instruments.
- Set machine parameters and ensure dimensional accuracy of machined components.
- Conduct in-process inspections using vernier calipers, micrometers, bore gauges, and dial indicators.
- Maintain required production output while ensuring product quality.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and daily housekeeping activities.
- Report machine breakdowns, tooling issues, and quality concerns to the supervisor.
- Follow safety procedures and wear required PPE at all times.
- Record production data, inspection results, and machine utilization details.
- Ensure proper handling and storage of raw materials and finished components.
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of conventional lathe machine operations.
- Ability to read mechanical drawings and understand GD&T basics.
- Knowledge of cutting tools, feeds, speeds, and machining parameters.
- Familiarity with measuring instruments and inspection techniques.
- Understanding of machine maintenance and troubleshooting.
- Awareness of workplace safety practices.
