A Library Assistant supports daily operations by managing the circulation desk (checking materials in/out), shelving books, assisting patrons with locating resources, and performing clerical tasks like data entry and repairing damaged books. They serve as the primary face of the library, often helping with programs, technology assistance, and organizing collections.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Circulation Desk: Checking books in and out, issuing library cards, managing user accounts, and collecting fines or fees.
- Collection Maintenance: Shelving books, books, magazines, and audiovisual materials, and ensuring items are in the correct order.
- Patron Service: Assisting visitors with finding materials, using computers, scanners, and locating resources.
- Clerical Tasks: Updating library databases, processing new materials, repairing damaged books, and handling interlibrary loans.
- Administrative Support: Answering phones, preparing reports, and helping with library events (e.g., children’s storytimes).
- Required Skills and Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and library database systems (e.g., Koha).
- Communication: Strong interpersonal skills to assist a diverse public.
- Organization: High attention to detail for filing and maintaining accurate records.
- Education/Experience:- B.Lib.Sc. or B.LIB
Pay: ₹16,000.00 - ₹18,000.00 per month
