Job Description: Mechanical Design Engineer – Panel Manufacturing Industry
The Mechanical Design Engineer (Panel Manufacturing) is responsible for designing, detailing, and optimizing structural enclosures for electrical control panels. This role focuses heavily on sheet metal design, ensuring structural integrity and seamless integration of electrical components.
Key Responsibilities
l Design custom and modular 3D sheet metal enclosures, frames, and mounting plates using SolidWorks.
l Create precise 2D layouts and assembly drawings in AutoCAD for the production and assembly floor.
l Export and optimize clean flat patterns (DXF/DWG formats) for CNC laser cutters, punch presses, and shearing machines.
l Maintain complete and accurate Bills of Materials (BOM) including sheet metal gauges, hardware (PEM fasteners, hinges, locks), and gaskets.
l Apply precise Bend Allowances suitable to factory tooling to guarantee first-time-right bending.
l Execute tolerance stack-up analysis to ensure smooth alignment of door hinges, locking mechanisms, and modular panel line-ups.
l Collaborate closely with electrical engineers, welding teams, and quality control to troubleshoot assembly interference on the floor.
Technical Skills
l Software: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (Sheet Metal module) and AutoCAD (2D detailing).
l Fabrication Knowledge: Deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication limits, minimum bend radius.
l Component Integration: Familiarity with standard panel hardware (continuous hinges, 3-point locking systems, DIN rails).
Education & Experience
l Education: Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
l Experience: 4 to 5 years of dedicated experience in designing electrical enclosures, switch-gear panels, or control cabinets
