Role Summary
We are seeking an Autonomous Vehicle Simulation Engineer to develop and validate Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) simulation models for vehicle movement and path-following applications in manufacturing environments. The role requires hands-on expertise in vehicle dynamics, model-based development and automated validation. The engineer will collaborate with multidisciplinary infrastructure, safety, manufacturing and software teams to support reliable pre-deployment validation of vehicle-level software releases.
Key Responsibilities
- Own simulation development from concept, architecture and planning through validation and delivery.
- Design virtual environments that reproduce wireless trajectory commands, vehicle path-following manoeuvres and plant-level operating constraints.
- Develop real-time motion models for lateral and longitudinal vehicle control with high positional accuracy.
- Create factory-floor scenarios covering traffic, layouts, infrastructure constraints, commissioning, calibration and pre-deployment validation.
- Build efficient, maintainable and well-tested simulation models and scripts using MATLAB/Simulink, Python or equivalent toolchains.
- Develop automated metrics for simulation fidelity, feature performance and test-result extraction.
- Validate simulated behaviour against physical test-vehicle or fleet data and document deviations and recommendations.
- Model safety-critical scenarios aligned with functional-safety requirements, including ASIL-D expectations where applicable.
- Integrate containerised tools, plant/controller models and virtual test environments into a scalable simulation architecture.
- Support simulation-driven digital-twin and pre-validation activities for manufacturing deployments.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies and prepare clear test reports, issue summaries, recommendations and weekly progress updates for cross-functional stakeholders.
Required Technical Skills
- Strong hands-on experience in MATLAB, Simulink and Python.
- Experience developing simulation models for vehicle motion, trajectory tracking or path-following validation.
- Working knowledge of Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing and model-based development workflows.
- Experience with scenario creation, validation, automated testing and metric extraction.
- Exposure to simulation and visualisation platforms such as CARLA, RoadRunner and Foxglove.
- Working knowledge of Git/GitHub, Docker and Ubuntu/Linux environments.
- Basic understanding of automotive electrical/electronic architectures and vehicle-level software integration.
- Working knowledge of ISO 26262 and ASIL concepts for safety-critical test coverage.
- Understanding of wireless and network technologies such as 5G, V2X/C-V2X and TCP/IP.
Preferred Experience
- Simulation or validation of autonomous or semi-autonomous vehicle functions.
- Manufacturing automation, factory logistics or autonomous vehicle movement within plant environments.
- Digital-twin modelling and comparison of virtual results with physical-vehicle data.
- Bi-weekly or similarly frequent software-release validation cycles.
- Automated reporting, issue tracking and test integration with tools such as Jira.
Behavioural Competencies
- Data-driven judgement: Able to recommend a no-go decision based on objective validation evidence while maintaining constructive stakeholder relationships.
- Systems thinking: Able to connect simulation models, containerised applications, communication interfaces and virtual test environments.
- Agile resilience: Calm, structured and methodical when working within frequent release cycles and changing priorities.
- Communication: Able to explain technical findings clearly to software, safety, infrastructure and manufacturing stakeholders.
- Ownership: Proactive in investigating issues, proposing corrective actions and driving tasks through closure.
Key Deliverables
- Validated SIL simulation models and representative virtual plant scenarios.
- Automated simulation scripts, performance metrics and repeatable test workflows.
- Release-validation reports with traceable results, issues and recommendations.
- Comparison of simulation outcomes with available physical test or fleet data.
- Technical documentation covering assumptions, interfaces, limitations and validation evidence.
- Timely weekly and milestone-based status reporting.
Additional Expectations
- The role is primarily an individual-contributor position within a cross-functional engineering team.
- Candidates should be comfortable working onsite and supporting shift-based infrastructure utilisation when required.
- The engagement covers software engineering, simulation and validation; delivery of physical hardware is outside the role scope.
