Ward Incharge Nurse (or Charge Nurse) manages daily ward operations, ensuring high-quality patient care, safety, and efficient staff allocation. Key responsibilities include assigning duties, supervising staff, managing inventory, maintaining documentation, handling emergency situations, and facilitating communication between doctors, patients, and families.
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Clinical Leadership & Patient Care: Organizes nursing activities, conducts bed-to-bed rounds with staff, and provides direct care to critically ill patients when needed.
- Staff Management & Supervision: Assigns staff based on patient needs (acuity), supervises nursing/student staff performance, and manages rosters.
- Administrative Tasks: Manages ward inventory, including drugs, surgical supplies, and equipment maintenance. Ensures accurate patient records, admissions, and discharges.
- Quality & Safety Assurance: Ensures compliance with infection control protocols, maintains cleanliness, and ensures patient safety.
- Communication & Coordination: Acts as a liaison between patients, family members, physicians, and other departments to ensure smooth operations.
- Emergency Management: Leads the ward staff in responding to emergencies like Code Blue or disaster situations.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (B.Sc Nursing),GNM
- Experience: Minimum 3-5 years of experience in clinical care, with at least 1-2 years in a supervisory role.
- Skills: Strong leadership, decision-making, critical thinking, and communication skills
