Job Summary
The Maintenance Manager is responsible for planning, organizing, and overseeing preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities for production equipment, utility systems, and plant infrastructure. The role ensures maximum equipment availability, compliance with cGMP, safety regulations, and efficient utilization of maintenance resources to support uninterrupted manufacturing operations.
Key Responsibilities1. Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Plan and implement preventive, predictive, and breakdown maintenance activities.
- Ensure maximum uptime of production equipment and utility systems.
- Develop annual maintenance schedules and shutdown plans.
- Coordinate maintenance activities with Production, QA, QC, and EHS departments.
2. Equipment & Utility Management
- Oversee maintenance of reactors, centrifuges, dryers, blenders, mills, pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, HVAC systems, DG sets, air compressors, and water systems.
- Monitor equipment performance and recommend improvements to enhance reliability.
- Ensure calibration and maintenance of critical engineering equipment.
3. Team Management
- Lead and supervise maintenance engineers, supervisors, technicians, fitters, electricians, and contractors.
- Allocate work, monitor performance, and ensure timely completion of maintenance activities.
- Conduct technical training and skill development programs for maintenance personnel.
4. Breakdown Analysis & Continuous Improvement
- Investigate equipment failures and identify root causes.
- Implement CAPA to prevent recurring equipment failures.
- Improve equipment reliability through predictive maintenance and continuous improvement initiatives.
5. Spare Parts & Inventory Management
- Plan and maintain critical spare parts inventory.
- Coordinate procurement of maintenance materials and engineering consumables.
- Optimize spare inventory while controlling maintenance costs.
6. Compliance & Documentation
- Ensure compliance with cGMP, GDP, SOPs, EHS, and statutory engineering requirements.
- Prepare, review, and maintain maintenance SOPs, equipment history cards, preventive maintenance records, calibration records, and breakdown reports.
- Support internal, customer, and regulatory audits.
7. Utility & Infrastructure Management
- Ensure uninterrupted operation of utility systems including HVAC, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, compressed air, purified water systems, and electrical distribution.
- Monitor utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives.
- Maintain plant buildings and engineering infrastructure.
8. Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure safe maintenance practices and compliance with safety regulations.
- Conduct risk assessments before maintenance activities.
- Enforce Permit-to-Work (PTW), Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space, hot work, and work-at-height procedures.
- Ensure all maintenance activities comply with statutory and environmental regulations.
9. Budget & Cost Control
- Prepare annual maintenance budgets.
- Monitor maintenance expenses and optimize costs without compromising equipment reliability.
- Evaluate AMC contracts and vendor performance.
10. Vendor & Contractor Management
- Manage external service providers and maintenance contractors.
- Evaluate contractor performance and ensure quality execution of maintenance work.
- Coordinate installation, commissioning, and qualification of new equipment.
Qualifications
- B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering (Preferred)
- Diploma in Mechanical Engineering may be considered with relevant experience.
Experience
- 10–15 years of experience in Engineering/Maintenance.
- Minimum 5 years in a leadership role within the API, pharmaceutical, chemical, or process manufacturing industry.
